Anyways. I was leaving a friends house today. From a previous post, as you guys saw, my A/C has been making funny noises, I havent been running it beceause of it, tho it worked great even with the noise. Today I decided it was to hot and went to turn it on. I let the car idle for a second, the noise sort of subsides when its warmed up. So, as soon As I head off, and the RPM's go to about 1100 Or SO, I hear a Huge, POP!!!!!!!!!!!. And then what sounded like steam blowing off. So, I turn off the car and investigate.

Heres what I see:

Actually in person it looked to be More yellow then anything, So I didnt think it was coolant, Tho it probably is. My first thought was that I just blew a heater hose. But I just dont know. What do you think? The car runs and drives absolutely Perfect and doesent heat up a single bit, I drove it a good 20 miles after this happend running around town today and it didnt heat up once. So what do you guys think? what happend?

The oil in the compressor, when mixed with all the moisture and dye thats probably in there makes that ugly yellow/green color. Something A/C blew - thats my vote.

EDIT: Come to think of it, there are no heater hoses down there .... just the lower radiator hose. The suction line and liquid line run under the battery tray and the accumulator is right inbetween the overflow and compressor. There are two manifold line comming off of the compressor. Lots of stuff down there to investigate!! (and it does look a lot like AF, so I could be wrong)(but if it was AF, it would be real easy to tell...like a constant pouring out when the car was running or an empty rad/overflow)

Does it smell like coolant? sure looks like coolant to me. I would think a lower radiator hose possibly.

Looks like the amount of compressor oil that would be in the system is laying on the ground there. Thats my bet.

If its possible go to the spot and use a black flouresent light, it could be the dye used in the refrigerant.

Well guys, whatever that was that blew out, is out. The car does not drop a single bit of whatever that was. And there is plenty of coolant, and the car runs cool with no problems whats so ever. However I decided to test my A/C, And it was nothing but hot air, Before this happend, it blew really cold air. So thats one clue down. Any more input is appreciated :nut:

Actually, it's oil with leak detection flourescent leak detection dye mixed in. A/C Ester (r134a system) oil is clear in color. :thumb:

And yeah, you either blew a line, or the front compressor seal. If the engine bogged down before this happened, check for blockages in the system before recharging the system.

My 84 Exp Turbo used to do the same thing when it over heated. There was a "blow off valve" on the compressor and when it popped there'd be a big puff of "steam" and then the green stuff all over the place. After it "pops" a few times you'll notice the A/C wont' blow as cold and you'll need to refill.

I don't know if the SHO has the same pop off valve, but your description fit to a T what the EXP did/does.
