Within the last week, my SHO won't go over 80mph. When I floor it, the engine boogs and won't accelerate til the pedal is let off enough to a point just above the original position. I replaced my fuel filter and it didn't help. I can hear my fuel pump when I'm outside my car and I never could before. Could this be a bad fuel pump or a clogged cat? Could this all be caused by my bad ATX tranny? It hasn't done this the last +10K mile's I've driven it on the bad tranny. Someone please help. I want my power back!!! cry

I had the same thing happen to me... If you go to the left rear of your SHO, and you can hear a low pitch whining type of sound (Your fuel pump is dying). I kept hearing a weird whine coming from the rear of my SHO, and my cars acceleration flat out sucked. After a new pump, everything was fine.

Also... Clogged cats will also effect your acceleration "DRASTICALLY"!! I had clogged cats for 7 months "Due to the outrageous price for a Y-Pipe/Cat assembly". I bought a High Flow Y-Pipe/Cat assembly from (PERFORMANCE PLUS.com) for $596.00 "Including Shipping",and my car has all it's power back and then some!!!! Ford wants $2200.00<---"Not a typo" for the Y-Pipe/Cats rant

*I would replace your fuel pump first, and if that doesn't workit's most likely your cats. Good Luck thumb

This could be one of the two problems that you identified. All fuel pumps make a "whining" noise so you can't judge a pump's health by the fact that it is whining. If the noise has changed to a struggling, groaning or unsteady noise then there may be a problem. Before labeling the pump as bad, check the pressure at the fuel rails.

Your situation does sound like a fuel-limited condition since slight throttle openings are accepted but large ones are not.

A plugged exhaust system will usually be evidenced by loss of power at higher exhaust flow conditions: higher rpms. You can inspect the exhaust by first tapping on the cats with a rubber mallet or wooden handle to check for loose parts. If any rattling is found, you can separate the cat ****** and look inside the Y-pipe to check for obstructions. If parts has loosened from the cats, you may also need to check the cat-back for chunks of ceramic matrix from the cats.

To clean cat parts out of the cat-back, I have plugged one exhaust tip and duct taped a leaf blower to the other and blown the loose cat parts out the open cat ****** in the reverse flow direction. Wear goggles and a filter mask.

I agree with scott about the fuel pump

I do not remember any fuel pump noise and then my pump want bad and I replaced, now there is a pretty loud whining noise. I don't know how many people have said "dude I think your tire has a leak in it"

When I gradually accelerate it looses all power at 80mph in OD. I can drop it outta overdrive (when my slippin' tranny chooses to be nice) and push it out to 90mph but it takes a VERY long time (more then 20 seconds 80-90mph). There is a lil hesitation off the line at times but that could be the tranny too. I have Wed. off and I'm gonna stop by my dad's cusin's shop and have them check the fuel preasure and the cats. I would like them to cut them out (I'll replace them wink  ). I have to talk to them about droppin' my tranny and shippin' it out to be rebuilt and havin' some other crap gone (tune-up, summer tires, radiator flush). Anything else I should have them do?? No charge for labor.
