SHO sitting

So... The deal is that I have a 3.0 SHO motor that I have rebuilt and 2 SHO's. An 89 and a 90. The problem is that both of the cars have been sitting and are in bad shape. At this point it would be cheaper to put the motor into a different vehicle. Ranger? Fiesta? Help!!!

I would say put it into one of your SHOs, what are the issues with the cars that would make you want to swap them into another vehicle?

Stick to the Taurus bodies. The generation 1's are a great looking car and nothing you are going to put it in will look better. I like the 89 dash better, but that is just me.

putting in a sho motor in a festiva is definately not easy or cheap. with two cars you should be able to throw together one good car. i say go for the sho

harder then a sho

But no really you have to do all the wiring, make it fit to the trans, spin the intake around the other direction etc etc. theres a bit of work involved, but it has been done.

I have a feeling that your SHOs were sitting underwater or something equally bad, and that is why you don't want to use them. How expensive is it to ship a body from the mainland out to you? You can probably buy a pretty nice SHO on the west coast that has some problems for not much money.
As for the other conversions, they can all be done, but you have to be a bit of a wizzard and a jack of all trades, and have access to a lot of parts.

I think I will stick to putting the motor back into the taurus. My 90 SHO just needs a lot of restoration withn the interior. There is another white 1990 SHO for sale in town. It even has a sunroof. Might have to look at it...:sun:

Nice choice, I have a 90 with the "no sunroof" option and it is a great car. You can look forward to the day you install the pull down, big, flat-screen monitor. In my case, the no sunroof saved my interior, but I guess it didn't work out that way in your case. The First Generation SHO's will eventually recieve some sort of recognition as the ultimate auto art, the older they get, the better they look, and that is not going to change.

IMHO, a Taurus is a Taurus... and not one of us would have given them a 2nd look if it hadn't been for the engine.

Put it in something cool. A Ranger would be o.k., but a notch-back Mustang would be even better. Or, hide it in an old car! My 3.2 will end up in something much cooler and much older, for sure.

IMHO, a Taurus is a Taurus... and not one of us would have given them a 2nd look if it hadn't been for the engine.

I'm actually the complete opposite. The only reason I got into SHOs was because I already liked the Gen1 Taurus and wanted a faster one with a 5spd.

I never bought my SHOs just because of the engine. If the Yamaha was originally in a Mustang or something and not a Taurus, I doubt I would have bought it. the whole package would be nowhere near as unique, if the engine was in a Mustang

The first generation SHO's with the recognizable body kit are great looking cars. I am not crazy about the front wheel drive setup though, as all the maintenance is a big pain. But the looks are fabulous. There is nothing nicer than a 1'st Gen SHO with a great paint job. Have a look on this forum, the ones in nice condition look like they would sell well now, if they were back in production.
This motor deserves a rear wheel drive set up, but for now, the best home is in a SHO.
