Sho Shop Front Strut Tower Brace

Anyone else have sho shops carbon fibre front strut tower brace? I just installed mine and when I tightened it down there is no play from left to right as you face the engine. However, the bar rolls on the connecting pins in a front to back motion. Is this correct? Seems to me like it's going to rattle.

Well, I have the steel one and it's like that. I assume it's so that you have a little play in it. BTW, I really like the brace, seems to help coming out of corners a lot. I'm doing the rear this weekend, I had heard it was a pita so I put it off until I'd have a bit more time.

You might want to apply a tension preload to help the bar do its job quicker and to lessen the chance of it rattling.

The bar is under tension from left to right across the engine. It's just that the bar itself is mounted on a ball type joint and rolls from front to back.

Is this really an effective modification to have?

It's fairly good. It really helps when powering out of a turn. I don't think I would do it first as far as suspension mods though. I just got a good deal on mine so it ended up being the first.

The strut tower braces really firm up the uni-body along with the weld-in SFC. It allows the suspension to do it's job without fighting a lot of body flex. They really help if you have or are going to upgrade to Koni struts and Eibach or Intrax (?) springs.

The steel bars made a big difference on my car. You really need to pre-load them when they are installed so that they will work correctly.

Make sure to **** the spherical rod ends with something like SuperLube, LPS1 or similar dry type lubricants, not chassis grease because that attracts dirt.

The easiest way is to buy adjustable rod ends and connect them to the brace. After you screw them into the strut tower, use a torque wrench to tighten the brace to keep it from flexing.
