New to the SHO world. Thinking about buying a 2010 or 2011 SHO. Are there any ways to tell if the car has the SHO performance package, more specifically the 3.16:1 ratio? I am thinking of buying a used one so was just wondering if there is any way to tell without seeing the window sticker.

If it has the 20" wheels it should have it. Im sure you can run the vin on the internet and pull all the options.

The vehicle certification (VC) label should have an Axle field with a 2 digit axle code under it. I can't tell you what the 2010+ axle codes are, but if someone with 12S and someone without post the code from the Axle field on their labels that will give you a definitive answer.

A ton of the cars came with 20" wheels. The cars with the PP came with Goodyear tires, if it has Michelin tires, it probably doesn't have the PP.

There's at least one other thread on this forum that speaks to some of the indicators, including the "Sport mode" for the AdvancTrac.

The PP has the 20 '' Goodyear (not Michelin) wheels. It doesnt't have a spare tire. If you do a 0-60mph test drive, the PP will shift into third before reaching to 60mph... the non PP will shift at around 65mph.

If you press the traction control button twice simultaneously, it will read, advance trac off sport mode

And if you press and hold the TCS Off button for about 5 seconds, then release, it will turn off Advancetrac altogether. To my surprise, these modes are outlined in the owner's manual.

And if you press the pedal to the floor for about 5 seconds, you are going at more than 60mph!!! PP or not...
But back to the question, the PP doesn't offer the adaptive cruise control... no biggie IMO. Also, for the 0-60, I would argue that the PP is not faster, maybe even slower due to the extra shift...

PP cars have an air compressor and tire sealant in place of a spare tire and jack.

What do you expect for 0-60 times? I have a non-PP (since last Thursday) and my G-Tech shows 5.35 seconds (per above it shifts into 3rd at about 65). I'm very pleased but wonder what one of those Livernois gadgets would do?

Interesting theory, but instrumented testing says otherwise. The stronger off-the-line launch as a result of the PP's significantly higher (numerically) gearing probably more than offsets the extra shift. In the absence of any other empirical date, the mags appear to be getting about 1/2 second quicker 0-60 times in PP cars vs non-PP cars.

I know... but when I compare stats of my non PP car to PP's, I am not convinced. Look at my video on youtube :

Non-performance package 0-60 (96km/h) :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j9FPpM6DR_w in 4.5 sec.

0-60 starting from a 1mph roll and it does it in about 4.5 seconds with only Livernois stage 3 at that time.
When I look at other videos of PP cars, they seem slower : See inside video of Darreli's car with PP and tuned by Livernois (before all his other mods) :

Performance package 0-60+ (watch it at 0:33 sec.) :http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Rx_B0O2yClw in 4.9 sec.

At the track, I launch between 1.9-2.0 60ft. and do 13 sec. flat ad had trap speed of almost 109mph many times...

I have not seen any PP cars with only a tune go faster and very few have gone under 13 seconds with again, just a tune... There is that one video from Livernois showing 12.78 at 110mph (with PP, stage 4, CAI, HR and exhaust) and 12.98 (stage 2 and I believe CAI)at 105mph... Beefcake 12.75sec at 108mph with just a tune but a bit more aggressive on the boost...
I am just saying not to expect too much in terms of numbers from the PP that's all... After all, it depends if the cons are offset by the pros of having a shorter gear ratio... and for SA561 that started this thread, it will depend on the deal that he's gonna find because less likely will he find a great deal on a used 2010-11 PP SHO compared to the many non PP for sale.

Every car is different. There's a chance you got a factory freak.

You can refer to my previous post for videos or go on youtube under steve142857 for many videos that will answer your question, but with stage 4 of Livernois, you can expect a gain of about 40hp to the engine that translates in cutting off about 0.4-0.5 sec. in the 0-60 and about 0.6 in the quarter mile. Stock my 0-60mph was about 5.0 sec. and my quarter mile was 13.6 sec. My trap speed was between 102-105 stock, now between 105 and 109... Just with the Livernois tune... Really shows and make us enjoy our car even more! Cheers!

Thanks for your very comprensive answer. I've been to the Livernois web site and read about the programmer used to modify the stock settings. Can a person just order this thing, plug it in and choose the "Stage" of mod and that's that or do you have to physically go to their shop for custom settings that they input based on A/F on a dyno?
If you make the change are you then forever committed to high octane or can you switch back and forth from 87 to 93 based premeditated abuse?
Thanks in advance!

Are you mixing metric seconds and Imperial seconds, by chance? ;) j/k

Also, on the "press and hold TCS Off button for about 5 seconds" comment above, that appears to need to be done when the car is not moving.
