I am getting ready to do a Miata conversion to a V8. I planned on a 5.0 fuel injection motor from a Mustang. Now I am rethinking that in favor of a V6 or V8 SHO motor.

Does anyone know if this has been done before with a SHO and if so will a T-5 trans mate to a Sho motor?

I know the V8 does not look symettrical when mounted n/s and the v6 would look better, but I want lightweight power.

I'm open to your input...

I've yet to find someone successfully using the SHO V8 in a RWD configuration. I'd love to see it, though.

It seems there's much more aftermarket for the V6 SHO, it has a lot more power potential than the V8, and there is quite a bit of info out there on RWD conversions. And since the V6 shares a bellhousing pattern with the Vulcan, your options for a RWD transmission are greater.

I'm sure you've heard of the 3.0 Duratec Miata. You might be ab le to glean some ideas off of that project.

You'll have a very tough time fitting the V6 under the hood unless you ditch the intake. I'm not sure about the V8 dimension wise, but it does bolt up to the tranny from a Lincoln LS, and I believe Quads4Rods makes a duratec transmission bellhousing.

If you want lightweight power, Mazda makes a 4 cylinder that bolts right into the Miata, turbocharge it and you're set.

If you're not going with the SHO V6 (which will take a LOT of customizing to fit properly) stick with a SBF......

Personally, I would ditch the idea of any SHO engine and go with something like a 302 engine.
