Quick history: I changed the valve cover gaskets and spark plugs, cause I was getting oil where the spark plug seats. When I started the car, the belts were squeaking ( worse than it had been doing prior ), it had a rough idle ( I had to keep giving it gas for about a minute before it idle on its own ). Once the belts quit squeaking, and the idling balanced out, I took it for a spin through the neighborhood. It drove fine for about 5 minutes before shutting off without warning. Would not start back up, so I pulled it home. The next day, it did the same thing ( squeaking belts, rough idle, run fine, shuts off, then won't start ).I have checked for any unconnected connectors, and unhooked vacuum lines. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

#1. Verify that the ground from the firewall to the intake is connected and secure. (Passenger side-rear of the intake, retaining the bracket.)

#2. Check, recheck, and check again that plug wires 5 & 6 are connecting the correct cylinders.

Coil:
5 1
6 2
4 3

Engine:
1 2 3
4 5 6

I "did" clean the MAF back when I first tried to determine why the car would sometimes run rough then clear up. That's how I discovered that the plug and plug wires were soaked in oil. THANKS to this forum, and the advice given to other users with the same problem.

I will check the pulleys, and at the least change the belts. I would hear a brief squeak before, but now it last what seems like minutes.

I replaced the plugs and plug wires with new ones. I tried to get away with reusing the old plug wires, but ended up damaging one of them, so I had to buy a new set. I will also check, recheck and recheck again my plug wire connections.

I stated the things that I intend on checking to just let people know that I "do" appreciate the helpful advice given. I do not post a lot, but I do try to search here for information.

While you are checking all the above, disconnect your battery for at least one hour. When you reconnect it, start the engine, turn on all accessories (headlights, radio, a/c, etc.) and let it run w/o touching the gas pedal for 5 minutes. Then shut it off. This will reset the idle so that it should idle properly.

Are the two bolts that secure the right side intake crossover tube (thing the DIS mounts on) to the mounting brackets installed? Is the ground strap that connects from the car body to the back of the intake manifold installed?
