First big snow storm for us here in Michigan today, glad to report the SHO with the 20" Michelens works great! No problems driving through this mess, back end seems to have a good amount of power sent to the wheels. Time for another drive out there, pretend to be a rally driver! lol....:woo-hoo:

Yep, AWD rocks!!

I bought the LGT back in '04, and even with the really crappy Bridgestone RE92s that Subaru puts on, it worked well. Since I've been running winter tires since then, AWD has become my favorite drive system for both winter and performance summer driving. It is also a winner in rainy wet or skushy conditions.

Whereabouts in Michigan are you? I've got plenty of ice for you to
test on.

These 20" michelins are really "summer" only tires. I think to get the most of it, a set of snows wouldn't hurt - plus any sliding may help prevent any damage to those 20's if they're stored away for the winter.

I have 94 mtx with NOKIAN studded tires, as long as I am not pushing snow with the bumper the car is like driving a tank. I can't tell you how many times I gone over the passes here in Oregon passing 4 x 4 's with ease. Just the other day we did a trip to Portland and back in the snow and ice and never broke traction once. It's the other guy I worry about.

Had mine out today in IL. the 20" Michelin's seem to powerslide a bit much. In an empty parking lot practicing tried powering though the turns at different rates and it's a little difficult to recover the turns. Maybe more trial and error is need to get a better handle on the AWD.

Hi Tom:
What kind of tires are you running? I'm facing the tire dilema right now and trying to decide which ones to choose.

Got 20's on our car and just had some all season Michelin's put on and love them in the snow. No worries and no need for true snow tires at all.

I got to use mine last night too before everything turned to ice. When there was a bunch of slush on the road, I pressed the gas all the way down from a dead stop and got zero spin with Blizzak ws70's. I have a hard time getting the car to lose control around turns when the roads were completely covered. The tires are way better than other snow tires I've used, and way better than any all seasons out there. I'm going out in the ice today and will see how it does.

I am in Bay City Michigan, couple of hours north of Detroit. My tires are the 20" Michelins, think they are mxv something, supposed to be all season type. Going around corners if you give it too much gas the rear end comes out a bit but I just powered through it. Straight line through the snow is just fine, good on ice too. Not as balanced as a friends Audi A4 but pretty damn good!

I work for a tire dealer for a living, if you wanna move in the snow, buy Nokian (don't really need studded on an awd or even a fwd really). They're made in Finland and they have snow 10 months out of the year, they make a damn good snow tire. They're shipped over in container for the colder months here in the US. I use their "all season" WR-G2 as my snow tire, the H-rated WR-G2 has a 50k mile warrenty, you can't beat that in any snow tire. I used to run Blizzaks, great tire, but damn do they wear out fast.

I put Nokian WRs on my wife's Del Sol a couple of years ago, and they stay on year-round. And I know others that use them. They are the only all-season tires (that happen to had a mud & snow rating) that are worth a damn.

I was going to get a set of Nokian RSIs for the winter on the LGT when the current winter tires wear out, as the Subie guys love those, also, for dedicated winter driving.

That's why I lov the WR-G2's they're halfway decent in the snow, and are still a great all season if you choose to leave them on all year.

I also have a set of Nokian's on slicers in my basement. Luckily I can store the SHO in the garage, but just in case I would have to drive it; off come the summer wheels and on go the nokians!

Edit: the Quaife makes a HUGE difference as well!

I put the 20's and Goodyear Supercar F1's in the crawl space and installed some 18" studded Firestone Winterforce tires on new wheels. Talk about excellent in the snow/ice!

I got the Bridgestone LM60 Blizzaks. Great winter tires. sure beats the F1 Summers. they were scary in the snow to say the least.

I read the reviews on the Goodyears (both the 19" and 20" F1s) that come on the SHO. Surprisingly, they had very poor reviews on wet pavement and the Michelins that come with the 20" option rated rather well. That said, I'm not surprised the F1s were scary. I'm running 225 60 R18s Blizzaks for the winter and I'm real happy with them. I checked the tire sizes offered on the Nokian WR-G2s... nothing close. The Blizzaks have the exact same revs/mile as the stock Michelins.
