If I understood your first post, the modded car has exterior dings and a ripped seat. It doesn't sound to me like the owner took especially good care of it. You would never find dings or rips on any car I own, regardless of mileage or age. Typically, I expect modded cars to be owned by people who appreciate them and take good care of them both mechanically and cosmetically....but that is not always the case. Also, while Livernois tunes and performance mods are generally safe, a modded car that has been driven hard would concern me more than a stock one in terms of mechanical wear and tear. If a car is going to be driven hard or raced, I want to be the one doing it!

The repairs on the 2011 sound like a good thing. That would make me more comfortable with it, along with the fact that it has never been modified and very likely never raced. It would be a great basis from which to do your own mods. Just a tune would bring the 0-60 down to the low 4 second range.
Thx for the input. I am very picky. By ding I mean one door ding, tail light chrome peeling and the tear in seat. It seems a large percentage of 2010-2012 have a small rip or tear on the side of the drivers seat down near the seat controls. However, I am leaning towards the one at dealer due to the maintenance and I can add a then for $500. The modded one doesn't have the touchscreen and it's going to cost quite a bit for dash kit, new head unit, and labor. Plus, I don't what else is on the horizon. It will need new tires and I know that no brake work has ever been done. Have a great day all!!

The fact they repaired the timing chain isn't unusual. Especially on this platform. So that wouldn't cause me concern. Everything else seems like typical run of the mill replacement of wear items. Seems like the dealer's actually doing their due diligence.
Honestly, at 78k miles I would consider timing chain replacement unusual and I would wonder why it was replaced at such a low mileage. I would say that most SHOs don't have their timing chains replaced under 100k miles without a reason to be that far into the engine already.

I know I'm sitting at 82k miles and I never once thought about changing the chain or that it would be close to needing it. Personally, I would go to the dealership and ask them why they were down replacing the chain. If they were replacing the water pump, I can see replacing the chain. But to replace the chain at 78k miles just to replace the chain doesn't make sense to me. Just my 2 cents.

Sometimes the chains do develop rattles on the SHO, and they have to be replaced. My guess is if they did not go in after the water pump, that's what it was.

Correct.

It's not as uncommon as Silver leads on.

158,000 miles and still on the original timing chain for my 2011. I had the infamous timing chain rattle on startup until I started using motorcraft oil filter every time I change the oil. I will still hear it a tiny little bit if it's been sitting for awhile, but nowhere near as obnoxious as it was before the motorcraft filter. No rips on the seats either.

For those model years, I would go with the least expensive one that you can find that has the options you want. Any money you save on the purchase price can be used for future repairs. Regardless of how well it's been maintained or how many miles are on it, something expensive can go wrong at any time with these cars.

Oh boy, now I need to decide. The 2011 is definitely the front runner. Besides the dealer being upfront and transparent. It's Kona Blue performance package, and in great shape. The curve ball is a 2013 PP in magnetic grey (not my favorite color) and one owner but 83,000 miles. It has higher miles but the most update interior and look. It cost more but not as much as I thought. Dealers been sitting on it. Small town dealer. All maintenance records but nothing new like brakes. Anybody buy a 2013+ with 80k already on it? I am use to Mopar so I know more what to look out for but just looking for input not a decision. I can decide on my own how to blow my cash. Whichever, one I get it will be tuned and change rims. I hate those flower ones.
Last two choices and I am buying on Monday.

Kona Blue is a rarer color. I'd have to troll around & find out how many exactly, so maybe someone with a build sheet from that year will chime in beforehand.

I'm gonna laugh, come next week, when you throw the entire forum for a loop and go out & spring for a brand new '17. Ha.

You'd have had us hooked and strung us all along this entire time. LOL.

2013 is Sterling Grey FYI. The 2013+ has upgraded brakes but most of the drivetrain is pretty much the same, so the same things to look for.

Nah, I'll just take out another mortgage and go for an ecoboost Ford GT. Go for broke. My wife would **** me. I am twin turbo on a budget. So no 2017 for me.

Don't worry bpd1151 it's not white so I won't mimic your exterior cues. Now if I do go Kona blue I can't do black rims. Now, I need more input on others thoughts. JK!!

I am thinking a gunmetal or anthracite. I despise blue or green cars with black rims. It just looks wrong to me. Sorry, in this PC age if I offended anyone. Like **** I am, I know what I like and it's not blue and black like a bruise.

It’s all the chrome on the 2010-2012 that make going with dark wheels even gunmetal not a clean look IMHO...

I would be willing to bet that less than 10% of the people on this forum have changed their timing chains before 80k miles. If something isn't unusual that means to me it's done by a large percentage of the owners. Yes, it's not unusual for the 10-12 SHOs to have rattling timing chains. But as you know, the answer is that it's not hurting anything and people leave it. I did a quick search for timing chain replacement and there really aren't hardly any threads about it. From my experience, anything that's pretty common has lots of threads about it.

Ultimately, I guess what I'm pointing out is that different things cause different people different reactions. So for you changing a timing chain before 80k miles might not mean anything. For me, if the timing chain was replaced prior to 80k miles there's two possible reasons. One, something was wrong with it that caused them to dig that far into the engine and I would want to know what it was. Two, if nothing was wrong would I want to buy a car that's so terribly designed it's not uncommon to replace the timing chains in less than 80k miles. Either way, to me it would need further explanation before dumping buying the car.

Not all SHO owners are forum participants.

My info is based upon repairs from the people I speak with at FMC directly. More prevalent on the 10-12's due to stretching.

Common complaints are the rattling reported by customers.

No biggie Silver. You bring up excellent points. I'm sure the OP appreciates your perspective.

Either way, the OP's own self imposed clock is ticking, and it'll be interesting to see ultimately which SHO is chosen.

Happy motoring!

On a lighter note. I drove the modded one again. Just to make sure I wasn't going crazy and jump at the first one. The big thing I noticed that I didn't earlier. Was the overpowering smell of Axe or some cheap ass spray. Maybe even Brute. Nah, not for me bro. Go Pack Go!!!

Since we are on color combinations, I think PVD chrome would look great on the wheels with Kona Blue being body color. OR you could simply paint the pockets with Kona Blue, like one SHO owner did a few years ago.

Not to be completely childish... but if it smelled that strong I would have been tempted to let one loose... just to add to the concoction...

Man now you guys are picking on Axe, A guy tries to smell good an you guys hate on them. Beginning to sound like the haters ball out here. You know I think you are overthinking this, Its all one big crap shoot, you never know which one is going to be a dud and which one is going to last forever. I also would not worry about how rare it is, the ugly truth these car's are not collectible, since only a few people even know about them. I would point out that in 2012 there was only one Kona blue made, so more them likely there is a dirty 1 of 1 car in a shopping mall or parked at the grocery store getting its doors dinged. So buy the one you like or if its just a toy buy the cheapest one. Me personally I always go for the lowest miles but then I never get ride of anything.

I know. I think I've made my decision. It's simple. It will have the lowest miles, most amount of maintenance updates, well cared for, maintenance records, an appealing color, and least beat on. That dude with the modded Sho was nice but I could see the glimmer in his eye. That he took that modded SHO, sprayed some Axe, and hit the back roads doing zero to 60 runs all night. I've been shopping for rims since last night. FYI, new thread with choices A through Z with all of your input, experience, and what makes you feel right. Please vote!! JK, I can't wait to start modding. My checking account balance is already getting nervous

TGIF!!! It's almost margarita time!!!
