more rubber, more HP.....
Sheared the CV joint. D@mn. Me and the SHO (the Black '89) were doing so well before that, too. What heartbreak!

The SHO had to be pushed off the course. How embarrassing. :laugh_ti: Kudos though to the autocross folk, they were very supportive and helpful.

A 3.2L, Quaife, solid motor mounts, Hoosier rubber and 18 year old CV joints (combined with a driver who punishes the car like he absolutely hates it) make for literally, a ticking time bomb!

Had to call AAA. Turned out the tow truck driver was an autocrosser himself way back when. Used to drive a Mazda RX-7 with a tubular chassis and a 351 back in the day. That car was "pretty f*cking quick" to use his description. He later sold it to some college kid who tried to use it as a daily driver. :oogle: At least the 95 mile trip home was pretty cool in terms of conversation.

Note to self- add pair of backup CV axles to autocross first-aid kit for next and all upcoming meets.

Raxles.com is the place to get 'em, right? :type:

Don't feel bad, I got a call from a SHO owner last night around 9:30 PM from Wendover Nev. he's from Salt Lake also and had locked his SHO's tranny up doing Auto X. His uncle had to go the 120 miles with the trailer to get him last night.

Took less than 45 minutes to replace the broken CV axle. The '89 SHO is back on the road!

I think it's cheap insurance to take a pair of axles (and the tools to install them, i.e. 29-30mm socket, breaker bar, etc.) to autocrosses.

**** of allot easier to change with a Quafie, isn't it? Ask Mike and me how we know. Worked with flashlights and minimal tools in the padoc at Pacific Raceways, replacing Kris McDonald's before he installed his Quafie. Broke at 2:30pm, didn't leave until 11:00pm

If you search on here Raxel's has good feed back, but I hear SHO Nut's are the schintz!
