Hi guys, Im a Gen III owner with a friend that wants to make his Gen II SLO into an SHO lookalike. I was wondering what body and interior parts he would need to accomplish this as I know little about your cars.

According to wikipedia, the gen II SHO used the second-gen Mercury Sable's hood, front fenders, and headlights. is this true? and if so, will everything mount up correctly or will the SLO need modifying to make things fit.

Thanks for the help guys.

~Dan~

EDIT: this is the list of things I could think of that would need to be installed;
front & rear bumpers
rear wing(if wanted)
rocker panels
dual exhaust
slicer rims
bucket seats
rear seat to match(if wanted)
center console w/ shifter and all
instrument cluster (the tach. is different)

let me know what is right and wrong as i dont know

i didnt ask why he was doing this. It would be my recommendation that he buy his own as well. but i figure if hes gonna try this anyway I might as well get a straight answer from you guys right off the bat so if it turns out to be such a huge project I can tell him not to bother.

SHO door cladding all the way around
fog lights
fog light switch
front wheel well plastics (to fit the front bumper)
sable headlights
power seat wiring ???
SHO emblem for the passanger side of the dash

hes going to pay and arm and aleg for all the parts, and then he gets to have fun installing everything, and then he gets to have all the exterior parts prepped and painted, plus any repairs he has to do to the SLO body to get it paint ready

so he wants a SHO, he wants it the more expensive way, and he doesnt want the Yama-Hammer under the hood ?

half the fun of having a sho is ******* people off when they loose in a street race, or at the strip, or on a road course ...

EDIT:

drive to buffalo and buty this gen 1

Wouldn't be more fun and less expensive to buy an SHO and disguise it as a GL. "Yes it does have more power, but I use special spark plugs", which would all be true. "Yes, it the engine has 254,300 miles on it, but these stock Ford engines will go over 350,000 miles with virtually no maintenance, if you just change the oil and air filters every 500 miles", which is probably not true, but I doubt that the hypothesis has ever been tested. And think of the boulevard battles.

to this, while i was collecting parts i heard from just about everymember how stupid the idea was, just buy a real one..blah blah blah...this was the end result..the naysayers were silenced..yeah there was more work involved than do a sho conversion, but it's all very satisfying when your done:

I remember reading that thread about your contour lookalike. I really like that and thought it was a fun project. I think its a fun idea if you enjoy doing that kind of work.

its oe of the local sho guy's cars, donno if hes on here or if hes posted it on here

car is in amazing shape and hardly modded

its posted on www.nyspeed.com in the classifieds section, signing up and talking to him would be the most effective way to find out about the car / strike a deal for the car

I tried doing this exact thing with my 93 GL and stopped after I had spent a few hundred dollars and had very little to show for it.

Heres a quick list:
For the front end...
-headlight panel
-fenders
-hood
-bumper
-bumper reinforcement
-headlights
-corner lights
-fog lights
-different wiring for the extra lights

Next up...
-Wheel well plastics
-rims
-door cladding
-the trim below the doors maybe
-rear bumper
-rear bumper reinforcement
-Suspension (if he wants the SHO "feel")

Interior you can get by with just probably seats, and new cluster, the SHO badge on the dash and the center console.

I know some of these have been listed but I figured I would compile the list I could remember from when I tried. Hope this list sends him directly to someone selling a SHO, lol, it would be unbelievably cheaper and funner to drive.

You could buy a SHO in decent condition with the money you'll spend on getting SHO parts for your SLO. The most cost effective way of doing it would be to buy a SHO with a blown motor, or trans (preferrably ATX for interior), and swap everything over. But once you acquire a parts car, the question will become whether or not to get it running and have a TRUE SHO.

i personally agree with the above comment to make an SHO look like an SLO, i think that would be more fun since ppl would be more blown away by the thought of losing to a ****** GL or something.

With stupid comments like that, I doubt it was your "project" that you got shit for. You and your cobbled up Contour won't get any respect around here when you act like an ******.
