Ok guys heres my problem: Today when i went to drive my car it was like the shifter was frozen and wouldnt move at all. Eventually with brute force I got the car to shift into 3&4&5&R gears, but i couldnt get it to shift into first or second gears. I jacked the car up and looked at it. Nothing seemed to be out of wack, the stabilizer bar seemed nice and tight, so i pulled the shifter bar back and forth a couple of times and then the car seemed to be shifting fine. Any ideas what could have caused this problem? Also, that universal joint where the shifter rod and transmission meets seems to have some play in it any way to fix it? When I shift the shifter it seems really loose as well is there any way to adjust this? MAybe that little black box? Im new at this so any help or suggestions would be nice!

i'd also like to know how to adjust the linkage, my second gear you have to pull back with some force to get past the syncro, is there any way to adjust this, common problem?

You might have snaped a strap on your clutch. This can make it very hard to shift. Have you noticed getting harder to shift?

ok heres an update on the shifting problems, it seems that when my car is cold and during the winter time in the morning its like the shifter is frozen and wont move. You have to force the car thorugh the gears for them to work properly. I think its the black box? Whats in there and how do you fix this common problem.

You can pull the rodshifter out, remove the black box, clean and relub the internals. Maybe a 1-2 hour job. Check the fluid first!

I recently sucked the old tranny fluid out. I got about a 1.5 quarts out and put new fluid in until it started coming out and then i screwed the bolt back in. I think I need to relube the black box. In doing that will the slack in my shifter go away or how do you remove the slack from the shifter. To describe it feels like its in neutral when your in first gear, you can giggle the shifter all around!
