My shifter in my '94 has begun to develop some slop lately, and along with that slop has come an annoying rattling. I've read some past messages regarding these problems, and have found information pointing me to the linkage bar that runs from the shifter to the transmission. In one of these messages is very clear instructions on how to tighten up the transmission end of the linkage bar, but I had a look at mine, and it looks like mine's sloppy at the aft end (at the base of the shifter). At this point, the linkage bar goes through a rubber boot and into a black box mounted underneath the floor at the base of the shifter. My question is, has anybody ever been inside this black box, and better yet, has anybody ever replaced the bushings at this end of the shifter linkage to take away the slop/rattle?

Any input would be appreciated.

Thanx

i had this same problem about three months ago, it was a little while after i put in my y-pipe. at first cuz of how close the pipe is to the shifter i thought i knocked something loose. but it happened to be the shifter shaft seal at the input end on the tranny. i still have all the part #'s and it took me literally 15 minutes to replace. and see what tou are talking about with the shifter box end being sloppy, my is still that way and i haven't had any rattling since the replacement of the shifter shaft seal. e-mail me at [email protected] if you want part#'s(Motorcraft) or if you want instructions, more than happy to help a fellow SHO owner.

When you say "shifter shaft seal at the input end on the tranny," I am thinking that you are talking about the forward end of the shift linkage bar (at the transmission). However, when I gave my linkage bar a shake, it was tight at the forward (transmission) end, but sloppy at the aft end (at the base of the shifter) where the linkage bar enters the shifter box. I'm hoping that there are just two joints at this end of the bar as there are at the transmission end. Has anyone had any experience with this? I could really use some input on this.

Thanx
