I know there are many other threads on shift knobs, that's not my question, but I have a 92 MTX and the **** it going to crap.
I don't know that it has ever been removed, and am wondering if I should clamp the shaft somewhere if it is possible to break something twisting too hard.
Any bad experiences?

you wanna come over my house :) :beep:

edit: Another serious question though, is it ok to put a little never-seize on the threads when it goes back on? That owuldn't cause it to constantly pop loose would it?

So did it come off okay........

Um, I dont' see why you are so worried about it getting stuck on. I've taken them off in multiple sho's and never had a problem....

I guess if you really want to you could, I don't know if that would cause it to twist off easily...

just a little forewarning, you can break something. i did when i swapped my shift **** out for a T-handle style one last june. when putting it back on i overtightened it and now the whole shifter spins free. i have a 91 plus with a rod shifter, i guess where the ball is there are some little plastic carriers that have very small plastic notches and corresponding plastic nubs that fit inside, you yard on it too hard and you'll break the tabs and your shifter will turn freely. not gonna stop the car from shifting or anything, just an annoyance.
