SFC -> rust problems?

I'm planning to install SFCs, and am curious if anyone has had any issues with rust around the weld beads.

It would seem difficult to completely repaint the 'back side' of the weld beads where the SFC meets the floor pan, which would provide a nice rust initiation site. Any thoughts?

Best bet is to use a the highest heat paint you can to paint the top portion of the SFC and the section of the car where it fits against, as you won't be able to paint there after there welded on. Leave the rest unpainted so that it won't bother the welder. After welding and cooling is done prime and paint all you can.

thats pretty much all I'm going to do, going to install SFCs in about a week or so. that and regulairly wash your car especially if you live in the rust belt.

Try to find some weld through primer and use that on the unaccesible surfaces. Either that, or some cold galvanizing compound. Both are available from Eastwood, IIRC www.eastwood.com .

Also, if you ask your welder to put a full bead around the area (provided you're not installing the long ones), that will eliminate most moisture from getting in there.

You also might consider a weld-through primer.

Weld them in place then use a spray straw and nozzle on a can or paint. you can really get the paint into the tight areas.
