I have found out that the safety recall for the subframe bushings has not been performed. The service department I called said they would install the gen 3 subframe bushings while the mounting hardware was being replaced if I pay for the bushings. Were delrin bushings standard feature on the 96 onward shos? Is it worth my while to pay extra for the delrin bushings? If they are gonna do the labor for free I dunno...i think i might as well do it. I know everyone says to stay away from the dealership, but...I would go with aluminum, but i am looking for a comprimise between the merits of al and rubber.
I am hoping this will alleviate the lurching etc. I have described in other posts, but it may end up being the front motor mount. The steering is sloppy though, indicating a likely subframe bushing problem. The motor mount looks to my untrained eye to be intact.
Anyone have delrin? any good? thoughts, suggestions? What should I tell the service department to get them to install the delrin bushings?

From my experience, and from many others, the Aluminum SFB don't make the ride more harsh. They add quite a bit of response to the steering as the rack is attached to the subframe.

The only downside is, with most Al. SFB you have to modify the washers from the recall kit to install them. This is not hard to do. There are plenty of previous discussions on this if you use the search feature.

Delrin is not a suitable SFB material. Avoid it.

Use either the Gen III bushings or go to the AL ones.

Plenty of other things can also cause "sloppy steering"

Depends one which ones you buy. The AL SFB's that I have made up have a hole counter bored to allow the use of the recall kit washers. Now if I could just get the machine shop to hurry up and get another run done I might actually have some available.

Thanks for the input, perhaps i'll go ahead and get aluminum ones. I really hope this is the solution to my lurching problem.

I just put in a set of Bryan Kings AL SFB's and the only difference I really have is the clunk and bump is gone and the car is a stiffer. And if your running old worn out and failed subframe bushings anyway your never going to notice what noise may be there. As for the modification of the washer took my 5 minutes on a bench grinder to do 4 washers. For the price diff between Bryans cups bushings and the other ones I'll grind.

Umm what price diff? The AL SFB's that I sell are $74.99 plus shipping, and I'll pickup and include in one box the number of recall kits one requests :) You need to look at the last post to get the current price.

Ok I have a few questions and I'll start with the first one. Who the **** are you? And you have AL SFB's?? First I've seen of it. I was talking in general of people selling them that I know of. And seeing how I don't know of you then I was not talking about you. But I'm glad you think the world may revolve around you and your bushings.

You apparently have never heard of Netviper. He's been making AL subframe bushings for quite a while and really knows his stuff. You should really be careful about making statements like "Who the **** are you?" to people who have made almost a thousand times more posts than you. When you refer to most people selling them, you are referring to Netviper, SHOnut, and Bryan C King. Just my .02.

You know what's funny I've never really read any of his post's and after I did some homework this morning searching the archives.... Well I really don't want to read any of his post's... Most of them seem combative and self promoting.... **** I read all 5 pages on the sub frame bushing design and I'm damn happy I bought Bryan's........And just my .02 here I don't really care how many post's he's made not a real concern of mine. And seeing how I don't know of Netviper then my orginal post was still not refering to him. I don't know him or care to for that matter. I think the orginal post from Brian Smith was about Aluminum Sub Frame bushings.. And my reply was I just installed them and who I got them from. Then netviper posted about the washer thing and at the time I belive his were 100.00 a set when I bought mine from Bryan....... So the price diff was worth grinding the washer to me. Now I see they are a penny less then Bryan's and I'm starting to wonder is everyone who bought them for 100.00 the days before the price drop will get a refund?

I'm not saying that either of the AL bushings from Bryan or Netviper are better, I'm saying that you should know what you're talking about before questioning someone who obviously has a lot more experience than you. Be nice to people on the forum, otherwise you might as well not post at all. This place is for sharing information, not putting others down, especially if they are great providers for people on the forum.
