well i finished changing my plugs today, didn't have to remove anything other than the canister and solinoid bracked. easier than i thought, took me about 40 minutes in total. now for my problem, my secondaries are not closing, they have suction at the canister, and out of the canister to the valve solinoid thing, and it seems thats as far as it gets, i am wondering if the solinoid is no good, anyone else run into this problem? also my car takes about 4-5 seconds sometimes to start. is this normal for a SHO? any input would be great as i am getting aggravated. i also noticed while i was changing my oil that the control are rod on the passenger side seems to move around, guess i will have to find a fix for that too. anyhow long enough post. any help would be fabulaous. thanks. :frown:

Did you plug the electrical connector back in for that vacuum solenoid (IMRC)?

If not, you'll have a 551 code and secondaries that are always open.

I addition to what Steve said, make sure that you didn't hook up the hoses to that little black cannister reversed. It's a one way valve inside of it. There are usually colored dots next to the ports to help with polarization. Also shake the cannister a little, if something inside rattles, the one way valve has separated from the housing and you'll need a new one.

As a point of clarification, the secondaries are held closed by manifold vacuum, and will open via springs when the vacuum servos are vented to atmosphere by the solenoid valve. With the engine off, the secondaries will be open, and will close as soon as the engine is running and there is vacuum in the intake. It has to be this way if you want to keep the secondaries open at high engine load when the intake manifold is not under vacuum.

If you disconnect the vacuum line from the servos at the solenoid valve (IMRC solenoid) and connect it directly to the vacuum port on the rear surge tank, the secondaries should close with the engine running. Continue troubleshooting from there, I'd suggest.
