Seals not found!!!

I am in the process of replacing my waterpump, cps, and seals...when i took off the timing belt pulley on the top left, i noticed that there was a little oil on the(what i guess is) the cam. Looks as if the seal is leaking. I have gone to AutoZone to try to get this seal and the Front Crank Seal. Not only did they not find anything listed under crank seal, they also didn't have anything listed under cam seal. Nor did they have my engine listed in the "gasket book". Does anyone know where the easiest place to get these seals are and if they are called something different? Thanks for the help!!

The front crank seal also known as the front main seal is available in the Felpro timing gasket set #TCS 45871. They also make a cam set listed under the timing set but I'm not sure how accurate that P# is. It's listed as TCS 45870. I believe the BCA # for the front seal alone is 2692.

If any of this info is wrong feel free to correct me.

The three camshaft seals (all the same part number) are in the Fel-Pro TCS45870 seal set from local parts stores such as O'Reilly for about $15.89 and from RockAuto.com for $14.34. If you are **** the toughest one (behind the CID sensor), you should replace the other two also.

The front main crank seal is sometimes listed as a timing cover seal and is the National 710220 from O’Reilly for $7.99 and RockAuto.com for $6.26.

Hi,

What and where is the CID sensor I keep hearing mentioned?
How do I remove the cam seals and does NAPA, Autozone or Partsamerica have the tool for removing and replacing them?
I do have a little oil leak on the back one, the front one seems fine. So should I replace that as well, they are pretty cheap.

Any pictures of the seals to make sure it the right one would appreciated. And CID as well.

I'm having fun, but I would like to get my car back together again, considering my wife & I only have that 1 car.

Something always popping up.

The CID or cylinder identification sensor is the 2.25" diameter, black plastic "cap" on the passenger end of the rear bank exhaust camshaft (nearest the firewall) with an electrical connector at the top. This sensor is attached to a mounting ring with two 5.5mm (7/32") screws. The mounting ring is attached to the head with two 10mm screws. See the pictures at this topic.

The 3 camshaft seals are in the Fel-Pro TCS45870 set from O'Reilly for $15.89 or RockAuto.com for $14.34. You must remove the camshaft pulleys and the rear, metal timing belt cover in addition to the CID sensor to access all of them. They are usually pulled by drilling a small hole in the metal "spine" of the seal face and inserting a sheet metal or wood screw that can be tugged on with pliers. It is critical that the cam shafts are not touched with the drill bit. A Dremel tool is very helpful on these jobs. You can search on "cam seal" and fine many discussions and helpful information about these seals. See pictures below.

FYI, the Felpro Front Crank seal that comes with the TCS kit is slightly oversized, and will likely need to be MASHED into place. I don't recommend using it. The Ford front crank seal is perfectly fine, readily available, and costs about $10 IIRC ($~7 from SHO Nut). E9DZ-6700-B; Cam seals are E9DZ-6700-A (3 req'd) if you go with Ford's on those.

The Ford vs. Fel-Pro crank seals are also slightly different on the front face - the Fel-Pro has square "recesses" in it, while the Ford is flat on the front face. One day I'll snap a pic.

The OEM Ford seal was the National (Federal Mogul) 710220 for about $7 at many auto part stores. It is unfortunately listed as the "timing cover seal."

That explains a lot. I bought the main seal seperately, not realizing that it came in the timing cover kit. I tried using the one from the kit and it wouldn't fit.

The reason that the original poster had the problem he did is because Fel-Pro does not have the 3.2L enginer listed in their catalog.... Those numbers are listed under the 3.0L DOHC Y engine code listing in Fel-Pro's catalog... to my knowledge the only gaskets that were different between the two are the head gaskets... i'm sure someone will correct me if i am incorrect on that...

Ford seals are manufactured by Federal-Mogul - I believe - however, like so many other companies There are different levels of seals within the ranks of Federal-Mogul's offerings.... The national seal listed for the front crank seal(timing cover seal) is to my knowledge the factory seal as the two SHO engines i have seen taken down both had OE seals and had the national number stamped on them.
