Could not believe the 'wholesale' price of OEM SARC struts from Ford today..in Canadian $$$ here in Calgary, Alberta...!! Was considering going with original SARC struts as replacements for my '98 SHO this spring...anybody know of a less expensive 'place' to purchase??

Thanks, Rod

AST128 - $366.43
AM911G - $370.87
AST149 - $311.26

96-98 had SARC. 99s didn't. As for replacement struts, I believe KYB and Sprint are the only choices. I may be wrong though. . . . . . someone else will hopefully chime in and verify!

Wow prices have gone up on them. Fastpartsnetwork has them for 200 a strut american dollars.

They used to be 188. I found a brand new set of 4 on ebay for 350 a couple years ago for the 98.

Rod, they are going to be hard to get cheaply here in Canada. I just replaced mine with OEM due to someone having killed one by backing into my front wheel, and fortunately ICBC paid for that one. You can get cheaper by going to non-SARC types from a regular Taurus, IIRC, and there might be regular Taurus after market types that are better than the OEM, but if you want to keep the SARC going, you are stuck. Might actually be cheaper to bring a set of those in from the US than via a dealer here.

Best of luck on it.

SARC stands for Semi-Active Ride Control. Basically it has two settings normal and hard. So you can have a nice comfortable ride when you're cruising along the highway and a hard strut when you're pushing it. I think it's worth the extra money.

The '99 still uses the SARC module for the VAPS. Just does not control the struts.

If i remember correctly, it senses harsh changes in the road condition (sharp reflexes of the shock due to *** holes, big bumps, etc.) and closes off a valve in the shock itself causing the fluid to not flow as freely thus giving a more firm response. :)

I. also, am in the market for new SARC struts. I want to keep the SARC so I am going to spring for new ones next month, before they are no longer available. The cheapest I've seen them is around $750 for all four from Rock Auto. You can use the discount code to lower the price further.

On another forum they said they have Konis available for the GEN 3 but I personally cannot speak for SHOBros.

It appears for quite a bit less that the cost of 4 new SARC struts you can get 4 Konis for the GEN 3, SHO or SLO from SHOBros.
