In the other post with the guy who has the LPM adn the 80MAF who is getting 240 miels per tank... i'm having the same problem. Here's what I have done to improve this, and so far, NO IMPROVEMENT...

Plugs Wires, 02's, IAB.. all in one shot.. -- increased 25 miles per tank... now at 260-275...still not good enough cause I used to get around 350 like I should....

Then I replaced the ECT... no luck...
Then I noticed that all along the temp never was right.... surely enough.. stuck thermostat....runs at right temp, but so far, no gas mileage improvement....so what's next??  It's been a while that the temp never was right cause the thermostat was stuck open... so that's replaced..could the cats be bad? I do need to re do my back braks... they make noise and feel like they're draggin when i put the car up on jacks..... but IMHO not enough to lower gas mileage..?? unless a little bit causes decrease in gas miles.... plz help :frown:

Am I reading this right. You two GUYS, under the age of 25, are concerned about Miles Per Gallon while driving an MTX SHO. As Charlie Brown would say, "Good Grief". Have you tried a Focus, Tempo, or an ******? :bonk: :D

As you both live in the North East, ie cold weather, you will have a drop in MPG starting at approximately September. Your tire pressure, if low, will cause a drop in MPG, and with cold weather the air in the tires is condensed, ie drops in pressure. The NORMAL expectation is for a tire to lose 3 - 5 pounds of pressure per month. So, tire pressure should be checked regularly.

If the wheels are out of alignment, that will also affect your MPG.

Dragging emergency brakes are a common problem up here in the rust belt. Keeping the cables clean and lubricated helps. Dragging brakes due to 1. pistons cocked in the bores of the calipers, 2. rubber lines collapsed and not allowing the release of pressure on the caliper pistons, 3. fluid return hole(s) in the master cylinder plugged and not allowing pressure to be released.

You could also have mechanical drag due to worn or dry wheel bearings.

Then, depending on the age and condition of your clutch and pressure plate, you could be losing a little MPG due to some clutch slippage. Also check your clutch cable adjustment.

The above are a few thoughts for you two to ponder. I would also suggest that you stop replacing sensors, and/or other parts, unless they are defective.

Are you carrying any dead weight around with you, like the mother-in-law in the trunk, or Jimmy Hoffa ? rangerj

Well, would YOU like to drive an ******, tempo, or focus....??? I had an ****** (rollerskate), friend had a tempo (coudln't get out of its own way), and would never want a focus.... I might as well wear a rainbow shirt and put a "girlzspeed" sticker on the windsheild. I love my SHO. I have considered wheel bearings and I haven't had an alignment for a while. Are wheel bearings hard to replace? What is involved.... is this a job for the stealership? Oh and not all "younger" guys drive like idiots :nono: ... I am very careful with my SHO, and i've been known to drive rather slow from the line.. I just cruse on the highway... but anyway, thanks for the help.

Any modification to make more power usually results in more flow of air. More flow of air into the engine results in more fuel being used. You cannot expect better performance without taking a hit on fuel economy.

half-way there, I think.
I get better gas mileage from my 4.0 I6 Cherokee than my SHO, of course the Jeep doesn't have an 8000rpm revlimiter (5500) Now if it did.... :evil_gri:

31.4MPG (85% highway) in my ATX. Runs stronger than a **** and purrs like a kitten. Newer ECT, 02's, Taylor 8mm wires, and mufflers

Its possible to get good gas mileage out of these things.
