Yea I know a couple people that drift miata's and personally I love them, What made you chose the SHO motor for your drift car? Also what are you doing about oil starvation?

Has anyone tried bolting a Ranger 3.0 flywheel on the SHO motor? The Ranger uses a 10 3/16" clutch, which has a little higher torque capacity than the SHO clutch, and of course the clutch disk is the right one for the M5OD trans. I do know that the stock Ranger 3.0 flywheel is 19.5 lb, so just a little less than the SHO, and most of the Ranger clutches have a stamped steel pressure plate, so that is less weight than the SHO clutch. If it fits, one could use the stock Ranger starter.

Since it has the 8 bolt attachment, does it bolt right on?

I think it is different, dis-remembering that I investigated this before.

It is so easy for a flywheel shop to cut different holes in a Ranger 3.0 flywheel, I don't know why anyone would bother doing it any other way. Unless you're trying to prove something.

Another clutch question:

Several people have said they are using a 92 Lumina clutch disk. According to the information I have, the Lumina disk is 9.12" and uses a 14-tooth spline on the input shaft. The M5OD has a 23 tooth input shaft. Is my information on the Lumina wrong? or how does the Lumina clutch disk work?

A 92 Probe 3.0 clutch disk is 9.5" and uses the 23 tooth input shaft. Anyone used one of those?

i've been really encouraged reading all the work some of you guys are doing to keep the 6cyl motors around and kicking and even into things they were never meant for ... which is the direction i'm heading also. my brother owned a 92 i think 3.0 mtx, that was already beat up as i could figure it to be and still an absolute hoot to drive...

Ive got a friend with a 89rx7 (shell) that i'm considering making sho powered. :woo-hoo:

something I could dd, instead of a 18mpg 302 [or other small block] swap, that everyone else has done.

1 question. with the t5 adaptor from Canfield industries, what are you guys doing about gap it creates as far as the flywheel/trans is concerned?????

thanks again.

Traded my supra for it, has 120k on it, paid $500 for my supra, got $200 on top of this Total cost so far $300 :D

Step 2 will have to wait till next spring because thats drift it till it blows up lol

Love to see it also. Tight fit but v-8 have been fitted to Miata before and close the hood.

But the head hanging off the rear and dual cam head does eat up a lot of space. Maurice

as long as we are aware going in that the SHO motor is about 4" taller than the LSx Chevy's and about 3" taller than a 5.0 Ford.....

I guess it will be run without a hood then or with alot of lifters on the rear

So I got a apprenticeship at a high performance ford specialty shop (I'm 18 if you didnt know) so I hope to have this done next winter gonna have some mounts made up, talk to my machine guy about motor mounts, oil filter relocation kit and the bellhousing adapter plate. How are you guys getting the nose of the trans shaft to reach with those thick adapter plates?

I thought about the monster miata but did you look at those prices? 3k for motor and transmount?! out of their minds... Anyway, some pictures from my apprenticeship?

EDIT: Photobucket is down I'll throw some up soon

Really? I wasn't aware of such a service. This might save me some effort.

What if the bolt patterns overlap? Do they have a reliable way of filling the holes and redrilling?
