Hi guys I was wondering if you could help. I just bought my dads SHO from him, it is 95 ATX with 125,000 kms. When I drive it the temp gauge will only hit the L in normal if idling at a red light and way lower on the highway. The fan isnt running all the time I already checked that. The heat seems to blow really hot when its cranked up to 32 C. Any ideas whatt it could be or how to check and see if maybe the gauge is just outta wack? Thanks I hope you can help. frown

The sensor for the fans and the sensor for the gage are independent of one another. If the fans aren't cooming on the car probab;y isn't getting hott enough to need their assistance. The sensor for the gage could be acting up and you might also need a new thermostat. If it is stuck in an open position the car will take a long time to heat up and may not heat up at all.

You said it was "way lower" than the A, but is it still in the NORMAL range? As long as it is in the NORMAL range it is, well, normal. The 82C degree thermostat that is normally used in the 3.0L SHO causes the gauge to stay around or below the L in NORMAL, but above the lower tick mark in the range. The 90C degree 'stat normally used in the 3.2L SHO causes the gauge to stay in the MAL area.

The radiator fan only turns on when the temperature rises above the switch temp (100C?) or when the climate control is set to anything but VENT, FLOOR or OFF. As long as the car is moving to provide cooling air through the radiator, the fan is not needed unless the climate control is asking for it.
