starting about two weeks ago, after running my car hard, every once in a while i'd get a CE light, with no other symptoms.

this week the car started running rough and weak pretty much all the time.

i ran the codes and got 172 and 173. which is "HEGO sensor indicates system lean (RH)" and "HEGO sensor indicates system rich (RH)." i don't know what this means, could someone shed some light?

the rough running part seemed like one cyl wasn't firing. i ran the cyl balance test and it came up ok. but at the time i was running the test the car wasn't really running rough (figures).

i haven't checked the wires or plugs yet, but i will tommorow. does anyone have any suggestions on other things i should check? or what this could be?

the plugs are pretty new, but the wires are the originals (damn expensive wires).

anyway, any suggests or info would be greatly appreciated!

i'm not the most knowledgable when it comes to this, but i'm trying to learn all i can...

thanks in advance!

HEGO refers to your O2 sensors. I think that your sensors are in need of replacement. I am not sure which one, but you may as well replace them both, as I think that it will help your car run properly. They are usually pretty easy to replace with your car on some jackstands. It may take you about an hour start to finish if they are a bit rusted. This should solve your problems.

Go with the bosch ones, as they are the best replacements here (not sure of part #'s but your local parts staore should have them.)

Good Luck!

Surely the Motorcraft ones will be better than the Bosch ones?

are there any other possibilities? the O2 sensors were replaced about 3 months ago. could they have gone bad already? if they are bad, what would cause them to go so quick?
