running cold

since ive gotten the car it doesnt run hot at all. It blows great heat but it goes just below the L on NORMAL. I just put a new thermostat in last night and it warms up faster but still doesnt run any hotter.....I think this is my gas guzzler problem.

You should replace two sensors:

The ECT (Engine Coolant Temperature sensor), it will cost about $16.99 from a local parts store. It will be a 2-wire sensor with a 1" Hex on it.

The Temperature Sensor for the dash. it will be listed as "temperature switch" or "temperature sensor" but it will be a smaller, single terminal sensor. Cost should be around $8.

The ECT is located to the right of the thermostat housing and the temp sender is located just above and to the left, between the coil pack and the thermostat.

What temperature thermostat did you put in? For the Automatic SHO a 192/195 degree thermostat is specified, not the MTX 180 degree thermostat.

Would a bad ECT sensor cause poor mileage?
I pulled the ECT code, no O2 codes, but I'm getting crappy mileage right now. (14-19)

I've got a thermostat to put in, but I'm just curious, that's all...

Do not touch your set. There is nothing wrong with your TV. As long as the gauge is within the "NORMAL" range (tick-to-tick), your temperature is, well, normal.

It looks like you installed a 180F thremostat since that temperature coincides at the position on the temperature gauge that you stated. Your 3.2L was originally equipped with a 190F thermostat that should have had the needle around the "M". Until you measure the true temperature of the fluid at the thermostat, however, you are just guessing the temperature.

actually i put a 195 in it. No the check engine light came on so i had it diagnoced and it said the egr valve fault that it was not open. He told me that it could cause bad gas milage. Can i take that apart and clean it?

If it was a code 332, then removing your intake manifold and cleaning the passages for the EGR will most likely solve your problems.
