Shifterproblem

the part where the arrow is pointing (the end of the shift rod) is hanging down and away from my transmission.

any ideas? i was driving home last night, stopped at taco bell to get some food in the drive thru, put it in 1st gear then went for 2nd and nothing, cant get any other gear besides 1st and reverse and its a fight go get reverse.

another problem i'm having is my shifter rotates pretty easily in my hand, like the shifter handle is loose but the whole shifter spins back and forth, any way to tighten that up?

The shifter boss probably broke on your transmission.
The boss on the casing that hold the rod need to be welded.

damn... well, heres the weird thing, i can look under the car and see the thing hanging down but not a bolt, is it possible for the bolt to walk out?

and also, what is up with me being able to rotate the shifter clockwise and counterclockwise (twist it back and forth with my hand?) is it supposed to be loose like that?

Sounds like you just lost the bolt. Post an ad in the WTB section here on the forum, or contact OffroadSHO. If you search, you can probably find what size bolt it is and you can try to find one at a hardware store.

That rod doesn't do the shifting, it just locates the shifter relative to the transmission. With it disconnected, the shifter just moves around without shifting the transmission.

i understand that. but even before i had the shifting problem, i could grab my shift handle and spin it back and forth. it shifted thru the gates fine till it came disconnected...

anyone have any idea what size bolt that is?

i got it fixed yesterday and it feels a million times better than it did before it even broke. the pitch is 1/2 inch course thread, i think 11 TPI. somehow when the bolt shit the bed it took the first 3-4 threads with it. if it happens again it'll have to be helicoiled.
