I recently ran into a fun issue on my 92 Taurus SHO (with roughly 150k on it).
It would intermittently run rough, the tach dropping to about half of what it should read. For example, I would be going 55mph in 5th gear and the tach would read 2800 normally. When the car acted up it would loose power and read 1400. I knew that was incorrect, since I was still in 5th gear and still going 55mph.
I read around on a few forums:

After which I decided my issue must be the DIS module (mounted on the right side of the intake manifold).
I purchased a used one off ebay ($35). And a tube of Artic Silver thermal paste from newegg. Replaced it this past weekend and my issues are fixed.
Just thought I would put another post up on the internet detailing how I fixed this and what symptoms my car had.
The issue was intermittent on my vehicle. It would run great the first drive of the day. I mostly take trips that are less than 15 minutes...had it been a longer first trip it may have acted up then. But if I were to drive it a second time it would run rough, have little power, and the tach would read very low. When I first started having the issue the car would even buck a little bit while driving (almost like a misfire).
