im looking to replace the smashed radiator in my 90.. i just need a few questions answered.. im looking more toward aftermarket radiators as opposed from a new ford/visteon one..money, being my primary concern.. also, is the SHO radiator different than the one put in the various models of taurus other than the SHO? also, does anybody have any suggestions on replacements? one last thing.. what does that 'accumulator' sitting on the firewall near the passenger side do?.. it's about the size of a jelly jar.. looks aluminum..

Redstar,

Modine radiators are sold through NAPA, and other parts stores, with a lifetime warranty. Keep your paperwork!

It drops in just like an OEM. I think Modine was one of the suppliers to FORD. One caution, be careful with the nut and bolt on the driverside that holds on the fan schroud.

If you overtighten this the tank can be cracked, or distorted to where the seal will leak. This is true of any brand name radiator that is set up like the OEM.

I am fairly certain the 89 through 92 use the same radiator, i.e. Gen I SHOs.
Hope this helps, rangerj

I think there are copper radiators for your aftermarket needs but I purchased mine at Autozone for around $150.

Is there any other differences in the radiators in an 89 SHO and an 87 Taurus besides the location of the coolant over flow bottle?

i just put in a 2 row radiator from Autozone $168. You just have to 'adjust' some AC lines. It also has a LLT.
