Removing Window Tint

Has anybody had any experience with taking old window tint off ?? The tint on my windows has gone purple and I want to replace it. Is this a job that can only be done by the people who are going to put new tint on ?? or can I do it myself ?

I took the window factory tint off of car to pass Utah state regulations. I did it with a razor scraper. I only had to do the side windows and it took about an hour of scraping and then some cleaner to clean the glue residue off. If you're going to have it retinted I would just let the tint shop do it. They shouldn't charge much extra to do it but check first and if you think the amount they want is enough to do it yourself go for it.

The side windows are pretty easy.
A water/vinegar solution or Windex will help it peel away, but it will most likely come off in pieces.
If you scrape the rear window, watch the leads for the defroster as they can be damaged in the process.

You may also want to check at a tint shop. They probly carry or use and maybee you can get the product info some spray on chemical that will make tint just peel/fall off. But if you scrape it off as 1stGenSHO said be real carefull around the DEFROST wires.

Yes...use windex/vinegar mixed 50/50. Spray it on...wait a few minutes, you'll see it turning white. Start on the corner and use a razor blade. If you go slow enough and not get excited you should be able to get it off in one piece. I'm sure they'll be gum stuill stuck. Just respray and use the razor to scrape. The Solution bakes the adhesive booger up. In other woords its like slimey boogers...hehehehe thumbs_u
