I'm in the middle of the weight-reduction campaign on the Pumpkin and am a little puzzled (still) about the mechanics of the rear door windows. Is it possible to pull the motors out and leave the glass secure by adding a screw, bolt, wire tie, whatever?

I've been studying the Helm and what I can see inside the door, and it isn't at all clear to me how to best go about this.

Anyone who's done this with a GenII have any ideas?

When the motors are removed, the gear can spin and the window would be able to move (down or up).

The motors only weigh like .2 pounds maybe?? Is it really with the work to save weight? Not to mention the weight of the screw/bolt/mechanism to keep the window up?

You could remove the motor and spot weld the gear to the surrounding metal. :thumb:

if you are going through with the wieght reduction...consider pulling the whole interior of the door (regulator and all), and then seal the window up there with something.

the rear window motor wieghs near 5 pounds...just replaced one a few months back...it was shipped to me

Yes, the intent is that the glass will eventually be replaced with lexan, just thought I'd pull some of the other stuff out in the interim. Sounds like I should just wait until I'm ready to swap the glass out as well.
