I see the remote keyless entry units for sale on ebay all the time. problem is they are for 93 and up SHOs. Well my 92 has the keypad on the door so why couldnt I program a remote for it? is there a way this can be done?

I dont see why not...

Its easy as heck to program it yourself. Definitely do it yourself and save the 40 bones the dealership wants to charge. A search will show you how to do it. :thumb:

I'm pretty sure that the 92's didn't have the remote keyless entry, they just had the keyless doorpad entry. If I'm right then your 92 doesn't have the box that picks up the message from the remote. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

In the trunk, behind the rear seat, drivers side. Its a black box about 6" by 6" by 3". It has like an antenna plugged in the side of it I think.

yeah i know the black box is for the keyless code. when i first got my car i didnt know the code so I had to open the box and count the resistors to figure it out. so if this is also for the remote keyless entry i should be able to swap in a box from a 93+ and then program a remote. i guess its worth a shot. if anyone has done this please let me know.

I looked at this myself with installing a system from a 93 sho that came with the keyless vs a 93 without the keyless and it looks like a real mission.

My car has keyless entry it just dosent have the remote keyless entry with the remote that goes on the keychain. I got a 94 parts car with remote keyless entry so I will attempt the swap and post a write up if it works fine.

I put a remote keyless from a '93-'95 SHO in my '90. You just have to splice in the connectors and it will work just fine.

The 92 doesn't have remote capability from the factory, even though they all have the keyless entry door pad. The connectors are all different from the 93+ SHOs, so you will have to splice, however it is easily done with some wire work, some schematic knowledge and wiring diagrams. My buddy Gil installed remote keyless entry in his 92, and programed his one remote to operate both his 92 and his wife's 96 wagon.

For me it looked like I have to replace the whole harness that runs to each door, I followed the wire and it looks like it goes up into the dash even goes across the middle of the car to the passenger side, so it seems like I have to remove the console, seats, and the dash to install the harness.

Or am I looking at the wrong wires? (which I don’t think I am)

Again, I intend to install the keyless entry system from a 93 SHO that came with it, to one that didnt, and just the remote keyless since I could care less about the keypad.

Mine was mounted behind ther rear seats. It will have the remote entry if there are 3 main sets of wires coming out of the black box. It should also have an FCC number if it is a remote. The programming connector can be traced from there (also in the trunk).

on my 95 <don't know if i'm repeating anything> i found the (box). it had Fo' mo' co' on it and my keyless entry code on it. then i looked at that then did a search bla bla bla. and it led me to the little connector on the inner 1/4 pannel. it don't have anything plugged into it so then just take a knife and cut through the coating and put your knife on and touch both wires then push a button. oh p.s. make sure your ignition is on sometimes i've heard you have to have them running.

RKEM Intall - Here is what you need

Here is what you need:

1 - RKEM control module from a '93 - '93 Taurus or Sable
1 - RKEM Antenna
1' - RKEM Wiring harness from the same donor car
1 to 3 Remote Controls from '93 - '97 Taurus or Sable

To install it you just have to splice the donor wiring harness into your KEM wiring harness in the trunk. Total install time is around 1 hour with the hardest part removing the backseat to easily get to the KEM & RKEM. I have the actual wiring diagrams which explain the process in detail. Just let me know if you want them and I can email them to you.

Hey Martin, was just thinking about you. Hope all is going well with you. Family is doing fine, car is doing fine. Just finished a couple of interior mods: '95 Center console and a Homelink transmitter in the Sunroof console to open the garage opener. Am working on a EATC upgrade to make the interior perfect! Exterior, well that's another story..... :-(

Also, there is a car show over at Spring Cypress and Champion Forest on Sat. nights. Looks like some of the cars from the old Woodland's show are there. Where is the group meeting now?

I've seen one on a '92. It was actually a Ford dealer installed alarm and remote entry system that was added to the car while retaining the Keyless Entry Module; i.e., just the same as an aftermarket alarm system. The remote alarm portion required another completely completely separate module. In the '93s on, the keyless entry and remote keyless entry were integrated into one module and were available from the factory. In '96 a factory alarm was also added. On the current cars, the keyless entry doorpad is wireless RF; i.e., it works just like another remote control in the system.
