Can anyone help me identify this relay?? The plug is cut off, and someone tried to wire it in. I had to twist that one wire in to get it to crank over...

I took a look at my early 92 build engine bay and did not see that square connector in that area. There was a similar size one on the firewall as you can see in the fourth picture (the wire bundle from that connector routed over to the driver side). I looked down below that area and did not see any other square ones. Does your car have the square connector still in that location?

Thank you so much for looking at your car for comparison!! I will try to look under my hood again tonight, and let you know!!

I looked, and mine has the same plugs on the firewall, I believe??

looks like the same one so it must be a different square connector. I will take a look again, but it won't be until this weekend as the car is at another location from me now

Thanks, I appreciate your assistance in this matter!! I have ordered the service manuals for it, they might point to the locations in that area where I relay might be found??

I had a chance to look again at my car and I think the square connector you are holding in your hand is the top portion of the connector I mentioned in my previous post. I took more pictures of it up close and you can see the white coloring on the top and I could also see a Ford oval type logo on it. You can see in the last picture some symbols on it, do you have those same symbols on your square connector.

perhaps the previous owner got another square connector from another car to put on the end of that wire bundle. The bundle routes over to a larger bundle that goes to the fuse box in the engine compartment.

In this picture I do not see the relay that you have in your very first post. Since I see the spring for the throttle body in the first post I assume it is somewhere off to the right in this picture?

To me, your first picture looks like an added relat as they are all individual wires and not a factory supplied connector. Given the wire diameter of the black wires its got to be something drawing a good amp load. I'm going to guess a prior owner had a CCRM issue and added their own fuel pump relay rather than using the CCRM. I did something similar for manually operating the cooling fan at one point while troubleshooting a CCRM issue on my '95.

that looks like the anti lock brake relay mounted (by a bracket) on top of the drivers strut tower in the back facing the firewall.
This appears to be the relay, there is a spot for a bracket on the driver's side shock tower, but no relay there!! Thanks, as I might now be able to get another plug for it!! Thanks everyone!!

I did not think of the ABS, as I would not think that the ABS relay would keep the car from turning over??

there may have been an abs problem in the past i.e. annoying dash light. if u don't have an abs dash warning maybe u should leave well enough alone. i'm not sure that the abs has anything to do with no start.
did u check the crank sensor 'resistance'? I purchased a new cks and went crazy when it didn't work only to find out it only had 8.7 ohms. i replaced the cks with another new cks but checked the resistance before i buttoned everything up and confirmed more than 10 ohms. note to self; never replace a cks without doing this test before completion. the sho is back to it's scalded dog attitude. lol
p.s. the abs light should come on when u turn the key this would say that the abs is working or at least it has power.
best to ya.

Aight fellers, as stated in my other thread, I still have some questions about this relay. When I get in my car, and hit the key, if it doesn't try to turn the starter, I have fixed the issue 100% of the time, by ensuring this relay has all the connectors seated? Some are usually able to be felt to slide on the relay pin. Then the starter engages, and the engine turns over? I thought this was the abs relay, but I can not see the abs relay causing this? I wonder if there relay harnesses are long enough to get switched? Maybe this is a different relay harness? Could any of the relays under the hood, in that area, cause a no turn over condition?

I looked at my door sticker, mine is an early 92 as well, says January of 92.

I some how missed this reply. I am starting to think that you might be on to something though? Like I said, the car doesn't even turn over if there's an issue with this?

If your ccrm does not get a cooling fan signal then u will not have a start.
Turn your a/c on and then turn your key to the on position u should hear the fan running.
i hope this helps.
p.s. that's the strangest looking starter relay on the driver's fender that i have ever seen.

Would that cause a no crank condition, or just a no start condition?

I believe that the engine will crank but no start.
The relay on the other hand will give no crank just clicks.
The relay came to mind because it went bad and caused my alternator light not to go on keeping me from finding out that the alternator was bad and the battery would keep draining causing a dead car every four days or so.

It's a good idea to remember that when u turn the key to on before u start is to look at all of the "idiot lights" at the bottom of the cluster ie; abs, oil, alt, ce. They are called idiot lights for a reason I failed to realize that the alt. light would not come on at start hence causing me all the grief about what was really going on. lol

Great I for, thanks. I will check that out! When this car messes up, and will not turn over, there is no click, no nothing...

Ok guys, I was looking at my car after work, and took a photo trail of the wires to the funky relay. In photo 1, the red wire is going to the fuse box. It's not tge red wire, but one in the same loom, I think it's only the two wires. It goes into a fusible link, and then into the plug looking things in photo 3. Then up to the relay. I will look through my book, and see if I can track it down. It looks like I should be able to find it easily enough, seeing where the wires go, and how few options there are there?20240209 18092120240209 18090620240209 180856
