I've yet to take apart the rear door and check this out, but I one can assume the SHO rear doors have enough room to roll the window down roughly 3" lower, or so. Then again, I can be completely wrong... I'm interested in this, too. Either the windows will roll down further, or get sealed shut with light weight replacements.

No, because if they went down all the way they'd be down over the outside of the rear wheel. :)

Yeah, the shape of the door does not allow the window to roll down all the way. So the automakers decided to market it as a child safety feature. Pretty clever huh?

yes u can!!!!!!!!

sorry to go against the rest of u but it is possible to adjust the window to be lowered all the way. i have a haynes manual and ill quote it on how to adjust the window

"adjustment

front door

lower the glass approximately two to three inches from the full up position.

loosen the adjustment nuts and with the door open put your hands on both sides of the glass and pull it back into the b-pillar glass run as far as possible(see illustration).

tighten nut and washer A (in illustration) apply downward pressure on the equalizer bracket and then tighten nut b.

set the door glass stabilizer so that it is touching the glass slightly and then tighten nut c to the specified torque.

cycle the glass several times to make sure it fits properly, adjusting as necessary."

"back door

to initially set the glass to the window opening , loosen the adjusting bolts and push it forward into the b pillar and tighten nut number 1, followed by 2, 3 and 4(see illustration).

the glass can be adjusted in and out and fore and after loosening the appropriate adjustment bolts."

The proceedure you posted is to move the window so that it stays in the tracks as it moves up and down. It will not allow the window to move further down into the door for the reasons Dave and Olympic stated already. You can even see that on the picture you posted of the back door. Look at the bottom of the window at the back side of the door. You can see how it sticks out further then where the door starts to curve in at the bottom. The front of the window would have to tilt down to get the entire window lower in the door. A lot of Subarus do that, and it looks like the window fell off the track inside the door.

I can roll my rear windows all the way down on my Cavalier
but on the newer models they don't go down all the way, even though they have the same frame, doors everything...so I guess they actually did it as a child safety feature. :salute:
I've always hated how the SHOs don't...how hard would it really be to get the window to rotate forward as it goes down? :squint:

You'd have to get a window track from a car that does that and modify it to work in the Taurus door, or modify the taurus track to look and work the same way as the track that tilts forward. I personally think they look really weird when they tilt forward, it looks like the window fell off the track into the door.
Its gonna be a lot more work then its worth.
