Awesome! I have a back window that doesn't work...mind the lock on that door doesn't work either so it's probably crank cancer just spreading to the rest of the car.

Anyway this might be a good project for January when I don't have anything to do...except procrastinate from doing my final project.

Also, I personally liked best the precise technical terms like "thingy" and "wee little brushes."

Just be glad I didn't bust out the ultra-technical terms "doohicky" and "thingamabobber". Also, "whatchamawhozit".

I speak to a higher crowd.

heh yeah... I should've mentioned that on the motor I rebuilt for the picture for this thread, quite a bit of grease splooged out (another one o' them technical terms) when I put the top plate on... but... a quick scrape later and all was good. As you showed yourself, if you're smart enough to rebuild one of these motors, you're smart enough to deal with putting too much grease on.

And no, there is never too much ****. Grease, yes. ****? nope. :angelnot:

I haven't been on here much in the past couple of months because of school. But I laughed when I read the more recent posts. It's nice to know SHOforum threads all end up eventually going to the same place.

:)

Hey I was just curious as to how I should remove that long shaft within the motor casing?

I have everything taken apart, but when I turn the shaft clockwise like im tightening it (since you said its reverse threaded), it doesnt come out. I'm grabbing it by the coils on the top while i have a rag around it. If I'm doing this wrong or theres something I should know please share ;)

Sometimes it helps if you pull up on the shaft while you're tightening it.

Another thing is, since it is a worm drive, there is a significant reduction on the drive plate. You may not notice it turning if you are twisting the shaft slowly. That, and it is a really long thread! I had to twist for seemingly forever to get it out. Just keep trying, and make absolute sure the drive plate (the gear that engages the window) isn't turning relative to the body while you're removing it.

Nah the shaft doesnt turn at all. I put the rag on those coils, and slowly "tighten" the rod, but it doesnt even move. I checked last night if that drive plate was engaging and nothing moves. Rock solid. :(

EDIT: I also took a pair of needlenose pliers and rocked the gear back and forth a little to try to unjam that shaft, still no luck.

I'm not sure if i were supposed to do it but yesterday i put a smidge of penetrating lubricant down the shaft portion but that did nothing as well.

EDIT2: I'm an idiot. I just incredible hulk strength'd it and it started to turn. I gave you thanks for all your great help (on this post as well as every other post youve helped me with). Thanks again, Hawkeye.

Edited the write-up to include your experiences. :thumb: Glad it worked out, and you're welcome!

Not a problem. If you saw the thread where I flipped out about people saying I abuse my car, I always try to use less power than more power with these vehicles. Bolts etc tend to strip and snap quite quickly :D

Yeah, I tried for a good hour to figure out a way to get that spring in there all at once but it just wasn't happening. I would've needed something like a piston installer tool! I tried to convey what a pain in the ass it is in the write up, but just so I make it completely clear:

Installing that spring is a massive pain in the dick.

Thread revival! Quick question, I tore mine apart only to find that the ball was missing so someone obviously took it apart before I did. Is the ball necessary for function of ther motor?

It functions as the shaft bearing for the whole rotor assembly - so yes. There are two - one at each end. If you can't find a replacement bearing, I'd raid another window motor from a junkyard of its bearings.

They last longer because they are used more, which means the factory grease doesn't harden as quickly. There's a thread regarding that... oh wait, it's this one.

Anyhoo, yes, the front right and rear left motors are interchangeable, as are the front left and rear right motors. If you just need the little bearing ball, any of the four corners will work just fine.

lol any motor goes anywhere just have to change the 2 connector in the plug if you have a wrong sided one

as for the rear failing the front a sealed and rear are greasable why dont know

the grease they put in there was not made to last more then 10 year
