I have the JBL system in my 94. Today I noticed that the right rear speaker is not working. I checked to make sure the connector is on the speaker, and it is. How do you get the speaker out? Are the speakers in the back 6x9's? How does the system work, are there separate amps for each of the rear speakers? How do you get the amp cover in the trunk off? What should I check first to fix the problem. Thanks!

Your speakers may be different than those that were in my gen 1 so keep that in mind. In my car there were 2 speakers in the each opening in the rear deck. You can remove the cover by slipping a putty knife under each corner and popping it up gently. The speakers are kindof piggy backed in a sense. The top ones I beieve were 6x8 and the bottom ones were 6x9. The bracket for the top ones were easiest removed by getting in the trunk and unscrewing the mounting screws from there rather than try to get a wrench or socket in from the top. The bottom speakers are held in with a rubber strap of sorts and was a major pain to remove the speaker magnet from that. But once you get that undone it was pie. Just take your time and you'll do fine. But be prepared to get a little frustrated with it. Take breaks often to avoid neck fatique and that'll help.

There are 2 amps back there and my panel just pulled down. Not sure if that's how it's supposed to work or not. The one on the left I believe is for the smaller speakers and the one on the right is for the subs (I believe). It sounds as if you just need to replace the speakers. I'd replace both sets just to do your music listening justice plus the load would be unequal if you didn't. Other than replacing the speakers I'm not sure how you'd fix the problem if it's not a short.

You're right about the 5x7 size...my memory didn't serve me. It's been a long time since I scrapped mine out. Thanks for correcting me.

the gen 2 that i have has two speakers in the rear deck. one left one right. to access the amps the amp cover has some sort of strap or clip or something.......but usually you can get a good look by simply pulling on it. i would test the circuit to the speaker to makes sure there is one......if there is, it is likely the speaker. if not, check the wires around the amp.
