Drivers side rear speaker works intermittently, or makes a scratchy sound.
I have checked the connections, the wires are wrapped in factory electric tape,
Sub works fine. everything appears to be good. Any suggestions before I break
out the multimeter and start tearing into the harness? all the connections are
good. My tool box may have dinked the sub cover at one point. (about 120 lbs.)
Are there any common shorts associated with the rears? I really don't want to climb into the trunk if there is a common denominator... No obvious damage.

Sometimes it works fine, some times not at all, sometimes scratchy..
Can't get it to do any of the above when needed.. Guess I will try tearing into
the speaker harness, and double check all connections. (again).. Thanx.

It's quite possitble that the voice coil has failed, the spider shredded, etc. etc. etc... or the connection might just be loose. One of my speakers made hellish noises until I reconnected it all the way...

Thanx, I will pull the grill and check to see if I can find the problem without
climbing into/cleaning out the trunk.. Can't see the connector well with the insulation
under the speaker.. I will pull it out the top and check it..

Voice coil is failed. It must not touch the inside edge of the hole that it rides in. When it does, it shorts out. Chances are, a small amount of debris is stuck in the hole; intermittently jamming the voicecoil into the side of the magnet...you need a replacement speaker.
