i have been hearing a knocking noise when i go over bumps in the road on the rear passenger side of the car. I'm assuming this is the shock and prolly needs to be replaced. Is there anything else that it could be besides that? And does anyone know how hard it is to replace?

More than likely a strut mount rather than a strut itself, see if you can pin point the noise to the top of the strut tower.

Could be a strut mount. But I bet it is a broken spring.

At any rate if you change the strut get new mounts too. Ford are the best and cheapest.

From inside the car. Take the rear shelf off. and you will see the three nuts holding it in.

To take the rear shelf out remove the seat back. Take the trim off of one side rear quarter window and then the shelf will come right out. I think there are a couple of push pins holding it on.

I had a clunk in my rear suspension and alwasy assumed it was the right strut mounts or strut as it was original. The right had been changed before. Didn't find the broken spring until I took it off.

There was a rubber sleeve over the spring at the top and the spring had broken/rusted through under this covering.

I had the same problem. I still do. I had the mounts replaced but still heard a clunk, but not as bad or as often. Is that the strut or something else back there making that noise or do I need another mechanic?

same boat here. I am hesitant to think it is a bad spring, strut, or mount. This is because they all have less than 12K on them, and the noise started at about 3K.

Can these be checked on the car?
