I have a '93 ATX with the factory JBL. I bought to 300 watt max 5'7" to replace the rear speakers. When I put them in, they were terrible sounding. Was wondering did I wire something wrong. Since there are four wires going to each speaker, I guess that two were positive and two were negative. So I combined two wires and tapped them together with with the new speaker wire. I did this for each speaker. Did I do this right. If not, please help.

What brand speakers? Some high power speakers (inefficient no-namers) need to have a LOT of wattage put into them to sound right and the factory amps only put out something like 10 watts per channel RMS. The factory connectors are standard positive and negative so you would just need to use an adapter and plug directly into the new speakers. Unfortunatly I don't have the color codes for positive and negative - you might have one or both wired backwards which could cause poor sound.

The two wires on each speaker pos and neg are there because the caer is wired for both the JNL and the standard audio system. What this means is one set of those wires goes to the back for that amp and one set goes to the front to recieve power from the head unit. Which ever system you have determines which are hooked up. So it doesn't matter that you have them both hooked your speaker is no different than the ford speaker when it comes to wiring.

There were two diferent connectors used by Ford you know some more of that what ever was laying around. If you connector coming from your amp to your speakers only has four pins on one side (K18576-B) then you +/- are as follows.

Pin #
1 (W/O) LH frt -
2 (LB/BK) LH rear +
3 (Y) LH rear -
4 (W/R) RH frt +
5 (BR) RH frt -
6 (P/W) RH rear +
7 (LB) RH rear -

9 not used
10 (LG) LH frt +

Connector type K18577-B (six pins on one side)

1 (T/W) RH rear -
2 (PK/LB) RH rear +
3 (DG/O) RH frt -
4 (W/LG) RH frt +
5 (DB/O) LH rear -
6 (PK/LG) LH rear +
7 (LB/W) LH frt -
8 (O/LG) LH frt +
