The coils on the rear springs are spaced closer together on one end of the coil, does that go on the top or the bottom?

The spring perch on the strut is sized properly for the spring, so it should fit only one way.

All of the rear springs I've used could go either way. On the last set I installed, I think I put the closer coils on the bottom.

Oh, duh, now I understand. I was thinking of tapered springs, which we don't have in the rear.

Yeah, it doesn't matter which way they go. Springs don't care down from up.

So which is it? The closer coils on top or bottom? Just because they can go either way doesn't mean they should, there's always some reason for one or the other.

Doubt it really matters but for my Civic I just did struts and springs.
I placed the closer spaced coils toward the top.

Unlike the front springs, the rear springs are cylindrical. The spring doesn't care which way it's oriented.

So the factory ones are liner, but most aftermarket ones seem progressive, in that case if would matter, right?
