Hey guys...I found a scratch in the rear bumper lower section. The black textured area. I got a new one at the dealer this week, and figured I'd swap it out while the splash guards are off. (I painted them as they were turning grey)

Anyhow...it's starting to look like I need to remove the entire rear bumper cover to separate the two.

Glad for anyone's experience here...thanks!

Yes the entire rear bumper cover needs to be removed, along with the foam energy absorber. After that there is one metal rivet on each side of the bumper where it meets the valence, then the rest are plastic clips that can be popped out with a flat head screwdriver. They do require a bit of force especially the ones on the license plate area. Also be careful if you have intelligent access when removing the energy absorber I'm pretty sure I broke mine and can NOT find the antenna replacement.

When I replaced mine I did not replace the rivets, I just used zip ties.

It souldn't take more than an hour or two to do, the bumper comes off easy just be careful of the harness connector on the drivers side when pulling it off.

Thanks! I was rear ended in a hit&run a few months ago and had to replace most of my bumper. It was a great learning experience.

TREMENDOUS help!! Thank you!!

I some research on-line and couldn't find much into. It looks like once the taillights are out...the bumper isn't that big of a deal to remove.

You are correct, I have a service manual I can send you if you need it. It's for 2014 tauruses but it's all the same.
