Has anyone painted their lower body trim? Lower door trim, front bumper trim & the rear bumper cover trim?? I was wanting to body color those pieces for a more uniform look. I remember seeing a 2011 lincoln MKS ecoboost on YouTube one day that had the monochrome look and it looked sharp! My car is ruby red metallic so I was thinking i could take it somewhere to have it color matched! Your thoughts??

Im surprised no one has yet! Im wanting to! I know it would clean up the look. I know someone who could paint them to match. I have to consider the pricing and time itd take to get done! Ford should have done this exclusively for the SHO trim only. Limited & lesser trims should have had that black trim.

Wrong.

I did. Albeit, many many years ago.

I absolutely hated the plastic lower rocker cladding. Just looked cheap IMHO.

My body shop was not too happy with me asking them to do it. Took them 3x of sanding, filling/blocking, before it was ready for them to "shoot".

Agreed! Which is why I paid to have it done. A world of difference for sure.

Definitely gonna schedule for a place to take those pieces off and get mine color matched! Time is what i need! Even if it meant they kept my vehicle for 2-3 days while I drive my other car until then!

Thanks kryptto.

Speaking of Andrew and projects and all the various things that have been done to SHO's over the years.....

I'm hoping to have some news on mine (finally). Not anywhere near as extreme as Andrew's build, but certainly a few 1st's, and a lot of one offs as well.

fingers crossed

H&R Springs had this image (and more) in an ad a while back. Caught my eye right away, thought it looked really nice without the dark pieces at the bottom.
Yes, this is where I got the inspiration to paint mine from.

I had a contact at H&R in their R&D Department back in the day. But he has since retired. IDK who replaced him.

They also had some shots of two-toning various bits in the interior. Thus where the inspiration came from for doing similiar work inside of mine.

I got sick of having to use the restore black products. Removed all the side trim (make sure you buy new retainers) and front chin spoiler. Mask off the back. Power washed, wiped down with alcohol to remove any oils, sprayed with a plastic adhesion promoter, last SEM trim black. Going on about 5 years on my daily and looks good as new. No sanding necessary, a scotch pad wouldn't hurt, but it's true black now. Chin spoiler got a coat of bed liner spray then oversprayed with the SEM product. Easy rock chip touch ups.

Jake, the SEM trim black is a paint product. You can buy it by the Qt and mix it 1:1 with a urethane reducer and get great results even with a cheap HF spray gun, or you can simply buy it in a Spray can. You also need, as in must, use a plastic adhesion promoter (another simple rattle can product) for proper bonding. The pics of the rear bumper are recent on 5yr old paint a few days after being washed on my daily driver. You guys would be shocked at the amount of crap that gets collected behind the door and rocker moldings.
I loved what bdp did, but mines a daily and I was concerned with paint chips and matching. SEM trim black is easy peezy, so far the chin spoiler is the only thing that's needed touch up from rock chips.

Kryptto, the front chin spoiler is fiberglass off Ebay. It's made for a 2010-2012, but you can sand the profile of the 13+ in and get it to a honeymoon fit. I used 2, furniture style bolts with a head about the size of a dime and a internal hex left and right of center to clamp it to the bumper cover and fabricated some aluminum brackets to support the bottom. Sounds worse than it is. I hit a chunk of 4x4 a year or 2 ago and broke it into 3 pieces. Glassed it back together and resprayed it. The price of the part and the price to ship it were almost equal due to the length. Nothing special about the hood, oem 2013.

The center of the hood on the Montero Sport in the background is also SEM trim black, common use.
