1993 ATX

So now I'm a bit tired of my AC just blowing hot as **** air on me....enough is enough!!

Ok...so is my 1993 AC R12 or R134?
Can I do this myself? With one of those so called kits I see in Autozone?
Any tricks of the trade I need to know so I dont blow the damn car up?...hehehe

epa requires a 30 min. evacuation.
EPA doesn't care about evacuation.

They only prohibit the intentional release of refrigerant into the atmosphere.

Very late model 93s and all 94s came from the factory with R134. As said, look your your compliance label.

If it is missing, look at the two fittings for the system. One is next to the radiator and the other is near the firewall on my 89. Dunno if your ATX is the same or different. R12 fittings look like valve stem fittings with external threads, R134 uses a coupler that looks more like an air hose quick connect coupler.

As for the 30-35 dollar kits from retailers, well, I can't say anything good about them.

Have your system diagnosed by a competent and knowledgeable service person. Just throwing stuff into a system in unknown condition is a good way to either further screw it up or to just waste money.

Well the car was built in Jan of 1993...and it looks to be R12.
Can I still have it recharged?
Will I have to go to certified dude who does the R12 re-charging?
Or can I buy the R12 still?...any ideas?
Sure as shit dont wanna have to do a retro-fit.

I was talking to a budddy and he says he's constantly recharging his 2000 Ford AC R134...and its not near as cold as the old R12.

Then....Im looking on E-Bay...and I see all sorts of R12 recharge kits people are selling.
Cans, kits, the works....so what's up?
Is this OK?
Prolly illegal...but who cares right?..hehehe
G-dam EPA!!!
