whtas up guys. question: how come my car has a hard time starting sometimes??? most of the time it starts first turn of the key; other times it takes 30sec for it to start or more. when this occurs the car sputters occasionally like its trying to start then it finally catches. seems to do this after i try starting it normally and prematurely stop turing the key because i think its started. after this the car takes forever to start. whats going on?

cleaned the maf, changed tps sensor (had extra one for my mustang lying around, and changed spout connector (had code).

See if there is a waterpump leak (drip). It will get your crank sensor wet, then strange things happen.

pulled codes diddn't get anything other than my 219 spout conector code. checked for leaks of any sort couldn't locate any so thats good. i mean i gues it could be the spark plugs because who knows when the last time they have been changed if ever!!

another thing where is the second spout conector located. there is one behind the intake on on the fire wall. can't find the other one???

If it does not start immedieately, take the key out and try again. If it does this 3 times in a row and THEN starts...it's most likely your camshaft position sensor.

Might be a weak fuel pump (or one with a defective check value) as well - next time the car is hard to start do the following:

1. Stop cranking the motor.
2. Turn the key between the off and on positions 3 to 5 times without turning it to start, leaving the key in the on position for 2 to 3 seconds each time. This causes the fuel pump to prime the system multiple times.
3. Now try and start the car. If the car starts normally, you found your problem.

My car used to do this occasionally before I replaced the fuel pump (especially on hot days) - hasn't since.

Our '92 has done this since new, on rare occasion. Generally used flooded start procedure (hold pedal to floor) and she will start after several seconds of cranking.

It's under the CCRM up near the airbox area, pull's 3 degrees of timing if it's not there;)

i think in the taurus owners manual it states that if the engine fails to start then release the key from the crank position and leave it in the run position for like 5 or more seconds then crank again. i read somewhere the computer adds just a little more fuel for cold start ups and recranking the engine imedietly will give it too much. my 96 ford ranger and 96 jeep cherokee both do the same thing, i just wait a few seconds between cranking and problem solved
