Question for the team:

Has anyone experienced a random shut off? This usually happens when coming to a gradual stop and at low speeds. I believe it's from low rpm. I did have the high idle problem a few months ago, but I changed my TPS, IAC and camshaft sensor also. Now it seems the problem is reversed, instead of going high it's going low and shutting off.

Now I've tried to catch this at times coming to a stop light or sign but I'm no Paul Walker ( 2 fast 2 furious) and unless there's absolutely no traffic in front of me I don't think it would be wise for the ole' stare :oogle: and drive routine.

Also I believe someone mentioned, something about the wiring on the TPS connector so I googled v8sho and there is a mention of a wiring kit??? I called a dealer with the part number that was posted on the site, he said it was the wrong part number but pulled up another number and gave me a price of $109 bucks is this right.

Sorry for the long post, but if someone could enlighten me on a possible fix or remedy that'd be great, as it's getting a tad dangerous :nut: shutting off in the middle of traffic.

Thanks :thumb:

I had that problem occasionaly on my 93, not on my 98 though. As is put the clutch in to stop in my 93 the rpm wold drop very low. The oil light would come on like it was really close to dying, and then it would kick back up. Never found out what it was since I dont drive the car anymore.

I think the TSB was for a surging problem, that was the extra part needed to plug into the TPS. Dont know if it would work for your problem or not. Does it ever set codes? We dont have an auotzone here, so I went to Schucks, or I believe Kragens i the same place and paid $130 for am OBDII reader. Best money I ever spent. Just scanned my car and my fiancees car in like 5 minutes today. Really good investment.

it might be a problem with your fuel pump...if you notice it happens more frequently with hot weather then i strongly recommend checking it...it happened to mine not too long ago, but there was another symptom, sometimes on the highway it would struggle to go, the rpm's would shoot up when i floored it but it would **** and stuff

Thanks guys, I've noticed over the weekend that the cutoffs happen most times on inclines, it's happened twice on the same road, which is a hill, once on top of the hill the car shut off?

Couldn't Escape it!

I had a similar problem on my 01' Escape. Very random, hard to duplicate. Never did figure it out, traded it in. Good luck!

Mine died one time at the same time I was having idle flucuation problems.

Unplugging and re-inserting the TPS connector fixed the problem and 4 years later I haven't had a problem since!

I just had a code pulled at AZ P0430, I believe it was, something about the catalytic converter threshold on bank 2? Would a faulty cat cause the car to shut off?
