guys any input on a differnt radio head? the factory one is going soon, its too much of a sore sight..I wanna put in a cd player, in place of the factory head and cd player, but dont want a gapping hole or a filler plate. So im either looking for a full unit or one that will look nice.. I also considered putting in a new cd player with a switch box underneath( for my lights and stuff as I work for the fire dept...) any ideas

well the factory tape and radio takes one 'din' spot, if you have the factory cd player also, then that takes up the other available 'din' spot. most aftermarket decks are 1 din. there is also double din decks if thats something you are really interested in...they are exactly twice the size! in the taurus, along with many other cars, you dont need any mounting kit. just the cage that comes with the new deck.

many tauri have the din coin and cupholder, or a small storage box. you can find these on ebay at the wreckers or off of someone on here for cheap cheap. or you can customize your own din plate for switches...what ever you want to do...many options.

I'd just buy a single din head unit and buy the crevice below from a car being parted out. Its kinda small and worthless, but you can toss a few lil things in there. Ive also gotten pieces of black gloss plexiglass and fabbed them into that location on past cars. Just cut it to size, drill out the holes where a crevace would mount and bolt it up. Double din's kinda pointless and you have alot less head units to pick from in that size.

There is also a radio delete plate available somewhere that will do nicely for your switch box idea. Try the search function or look up shoclub.com.

The new Kenwood Excelon units are very nice. I just bought the XXV-01D, last year's 25th anniversary model. I'm very happy with it.
