Question: I'm not really familiar with this absolutely absurd JBL sound system. The head unit is only a controller, correct? The actual computer/brain is in the back with the AMP, correct? Can anyone verify?

Current setup: Stock JBL with a self installed Sony 10 disc changer. The CD player works perfectly and is tapped into the antannae wire to play on 88.3 FM. Power wires are worked into the harness for the head unit. I took out the wires and used new contacts in the harness. Not a crappy Circuit-City install or a sketchy wire splicing job. Works great and the radio worked fine after the install(except the left speaker and power button problem as described below). Recently, the rest of the radio is whacked.

Problem: The radio on/off switch is shot. The tune buttons scans, the scan button barely works, there is absolutely no FM reception (I think I pinpointed this to a bad antannae wire connection), the pre-sets are all the same and cannot be changed. The volume button is sketchy. The left side speakers cut out for no reason until I turn the volume way up. There is no static until the bass is cranked (duh).

The most bizzare is the way I turn on my radio. I must cycle the key on and off. The radio turns on every other cycle of the key. And I don't mean occasionally. If I start the car and the radio does not go on, I have to turn the car off and restart. After that, I turn off the car (the radio is on). Cycle the key once, no radio. Cycle it again, radio is on. Cycle again, no radio, cycle again, radio is on. See the pattern? Literally every other key cycle, the radio comes on. I can't turn it off or on with the power button.

So what am I looking at here? A bad head unit? Computer? Just forget about it and invest in a new system? That's a nasty mess of wires in the trunk...

Thanks in advance.

Only in a gen 3.

In gen 1 and 2 the only thing in the back is the amplifier. Which is bypassd with a harness

Thanks.

Subwoofer?

Somebody musta stole it...

The one at my school has the system with the sub...

But my system is still messed up. Can anyone tell me if I should just invest in a custom system?
