I just pulled the trigger on a ****** Passport 9500ix for a trip I have to take in a few months. I was wondering will the BLIS system give me false alerts?

I dont have Adaptive Cruise. Any experience with this?:thankyou:

I am running a Bel GX65, which is basically the same as the 9500. With ACC and BLIS I have no problems at all. Both the Bel and the ****** are completely awesome.

I read an article on this recently. The radar detectors and these types of systems use a different frequency so they don't interfere.

That's great news. I was hoping I didn't buy an expensive paper weight

Sorry if its off topic, but what is the best detector? Now that I am in the US a lot, been thinking of picking one up.

I like this, knew nothing about it. The ****** learns as you drive, GPS's false alarms and silences them the next time it is encountered, very nice feature. Unit has rear looking laser detection as well. Detected TN state troopers so far in advance I thought they were false alarms.

Dont forget the traffic cam database it stores.

x2 on the Passport 9500. Great unit. I've had it for the last 2 years and I haven't had a ticket since.

Mine never goes off on my daily commute unless there is a police radar. So, when it goes off you actually pay attention to it. My previous detector falsed approximately 10 times on the same drive - each way.

On one occasion at 4 am it merely chirped. I slowed down and lo and behold, I came over a slight hill and there was a LEO with instant on radar. He had shot a car that was 2 miles ahead of me and that was the chirp I responded to. With any other detector I would have ignored it as a transient.

Now if anyone finds the best way to mount the 9500xi please tell. I'm using the ****** suction mount and it holds the unit between the headliner and the mirror. The top of the detector is jammed as close as possible to the map light. Certainly not a great spot because its not level and part of the mirror is blocking the signal path.

I cant move it to the left any farther otherwise the visor would unusable (and **** the wife) and I don't want to go below because of theft.

Mine is mounted half way between the mirror and dash in the middle of the windshield. I'm pretty sure that is the suggested mounting area for optimal performance.

I understand your concern for theft and take mine down and store it which is a pain in the ****, but in no way want to mount it in another place that might affect functionality at any level.

I don't think your pictured mount meets manufacturers recommendations.

Nice work on the install though.

What do you do if you get pulled over? Do you try to remove it and hide it or just leave it there and take the ticket?
I would think all chances of getting out of a ticket are gone if they see a detector.

I have gotten out of several tickets with a (cheap) detector hanging on the window. One time the cop asked me if it went off and why I did not slow down. I told him I was coming home from working all night and just ignored it because I was tired. He said, "Yeah, after a while you tend to start ignoring them." Then he let me off with a warning. Most officers don't take them all that seriously, it seems.

The only tickets I've had in the past 5 years were speed traps and they weren't giving out warnings to anyone. Once on the interstate passing through Indiana, at least 10 cops waiting for suckers coming around the bend. The other time, a speed "detail" using laser from the top of an on ramp with several chase cars staged. That time the LEO actually apologized that he could not give me a "pass". And I did not even suggest it.

With the sharp rake of the SHOs windshield, I find you can mount it to the left of the rear view mirror and get good reception, plus still use the visor. Added bonus is the visor hides the unit from behind in a pinch. Most importantly it is directly in your line of sight, making it much easier to react.

Are they illegal in PA? Most states detectors aren't illegal, its radar jammers that are.
