On this note of radar detectors- are there any properly amped wires in the headliner (with the sunglass storage, reading lights, moonroof switch), that can be vampired into for a hard-wire install? For that matter, anything in the connection to the rain sensor? Or is the only hardwire option to run down the a-pillar to the fusebox?

It's little bit PITA, but you can find power in the auto dim mirror connector. A plus is that it will turn the detector off when the ignition is off. Mine is wired in with a 1 amp fuse between that power hook up and the detector, so you shouldn't have blown fuse issues.

Thats where I ran mine. I cant remember which fuse I did, but if you search under my name it will show up. Running the wire down the a pillar is easy. It should take more than 10-15 minutes if you know which fuse to tap into.

I ran mine the same way as Bill. I would becareful tapping into wires by the map lights. There are shielded wires there for the Sync mic.
In the owners manual look for a 30 amp fuse listed as a spare. It is switched power. I also used a product called add a circuit for a clean install and to prevent damage to the smart junction box.

I took an old phone cord (RJ11 style ******/Bel) snipped it and soldered on two solid copper wires appx 1" and after adding heat shrink I pushed them into the connector behind the mirror. Use a voltmeter to find ground and 12v switched.

Nice and short and shuts off with the ignition.

First off, I'm glad to finally be considered a member! I posted many times and required "mod approval" - I'll be coming here more often now!

HOWEVER..................this week I got my FIRST run of Driver Side BLIS "Blind Spot Not Available" messages. Shaker, did you ever take yours in to find out what they said?

I love this ****** Passport 9500. The thing has learned so much that, when the damn thing goes off, I KNOW it's cop radar. The other day X band went off (which is RARE here in Ft Worth) - - - I thought twice before slowing down, but over the next hill was a good ol' Fort Worth cop just waiting for someone to fill the donation bin.

I've got nothing bad to say about the Valentine. I owned it in my Fusion. But this ****** 9500 is pretty hard to beat.

Yup and so far so good. They flashed (calibrated) the system and they said when they checked the wiring plug inside the drivers mirror the "motor" fell right out, so they replaced that too.
