SHOtimer
#2910
I am possibly going to buy a '96 SHO with low miles. It has had less than 5k miles put on it in the last 5 years, so it has sat a lot.
The transmission was replaced by Ford in '06 due to the guys daughter driving it out of fluid on a long distance trip and seizing the original tranny.
When I test drove it everytime the TC locked up was extremely pronounced. It shifted, drove fine, but felt like a very firm lockup everytime it did....much stronger than the shifts themselves.
I did some searching, but couldn't find much here about firm lockups, most were regarding the TC cycling when the AC was on, or problems with it not locking up.
The owner said he took it back to the dealer after the replacement and they said it was 'normal' due to the high-performance nature of the car (sounds like they fed him BS)
He wouldn't out-right admit it, but I don't think it did it with the original tranny.
The tranny is of course out of warranty now, but only has 5k on it.
Is this a problem (possible deal-breaker?), or normal, or what?
Thanks! I need to get back to him in the next few hours - thanks for your help.
(edit, it is a '96 with 49k on it, original owner, unwelded. It is black and has been outside it's whole life - the paint is GONE, tires are poor, tread is good, but tires are cracked, and brakes shot - what you guys think is a reasonable price? I'm not very good at ball-parking Gen III's)
