All you need is a lockpick. It's easy to install, but you have to take a few pieces of the dash and center console apart to access the radio. Once installed you just hold down the media button for 3 seconds and it engages the rear camera.

Its a hardware interface called Lockpick from Coastal Electronic Technologies. You can find it here http://www.coastaletech.com/synclockpick.htm

I had mine installed as a package with other goodies. Its basically a matter of pulling the nav and plugging the included wiring harness in. After that the setup is within the menu.

You can review my forum history and find a detailed write up on how to install it.
Besides being able to turn the camera on (cute but not really helpful) it gives you the ability to use the Nav and DVD system while your under way. Many functions are turned off when the vehicle is in motion. This bypasses all that.

If you tow... turning on camera is a real treat!

Where do you suggest getting the tools to take dash apart for install?

Or... should I find a stereo shop to install?

Not sure on a flex, but all you need is a small socket (dont remember the size), and a little patience on the Taurus. Maybe a philips head screwdriver too. It's really easy.
