I'm planning on removing the silencer cone but I want to make sure I'm doing it right, if there is a right and wrong way. I did a search and found some good info, but I still never thought it would be so confusing. I'm going to remove the whole assmebly from inside the fender? Correct?

One more question: What size bolts hold down the bottom of the intake box? The ones that have the small cushions on them

Thanks.

Yes, you can remove the whole box from the inner fender. I did something a little different but it resulted in a quieter intake.

Airbox screws: 8mm
Nuts holding the box inside the fender: 11mm

I removed mine the hard way.....without removing the inner fender skirt. That....was a pain in the rump.

Thanks for the fast replies.

Ok, that's what I thought. I need to buy the bolts that hold down the lower airbox that's why I wanted to know the size. You think I can find them at Ace? 8mm,Fine Thread?

yes

You might just wanna go to the junk yard or to save yourself lots of troble just go buy some self tapping screws. But really you dont need 3 bolts holding it down its not like your going off-roading and its not going any where.

Or you can do what i did and keep you bolts in a pan or have someone hold on to them :thumb:

When I took out my silencer, I think all I did was take out the corner light as well, un did the screws holding the silencer in, and pulled it out. Took about, 5 minutes.

With a Gen 2 it is pretty easy. Take out the corner light as mentioned (2 11mm Nuts, 1 philips head screw) to gain access into the fender, remove the airbox (3 8mm Screws) and then the inner-fender box (2 11mm Nuts) and wrestle it out (at least 2 scrapes/blood). Then, put it all back together and enjoy!

Did you guys actually get the whole inner air box out just from removing the turn signal?! I was only able to get the cone out and that was a pain. It ripped up my thumb! I dont see how you can get the air box out without banging it up or something. Removing the splash shield would be much easier.
